I've got a 1978 coupe with a factory 302 automatic, there's a picture of it and my 79 Cobra on my 360 page. The mustang II was a decent car, but not very well liked by fans of the earlier mustangs.
They were similar in size and shared some parts with the pinto, sort of like the 64 1/2 - 69 were a re-designed falcon.

They will probably never reach the value of earlier performance cars, but the real value is the enjoyment in driving them. Many people have never even seen a mustang II, someone asked me one time what year my camaro was!!

Most of the Mustang Enthusiasts "hate" Mustang IIs because they do not understand them or the situation in which they were produced and sold.

A few points that they have forgotten are:

The 1974 Mustang II was the first Mustang to received Motor Trend's Car of the Year award.

The 1974, 1975 and 1978 model years rank 6th, 9th and 10th in the top selling Mustang list and have outsold every Mustang since 1980.

The only "modern" Mustang to outsell the 1974 Mustang II was the 1979 Mustang which was the first year for the "fox body" platform.

The Mustang II has a larger following today than most people realize. The Mustang II Registry contains over 3200 cars in 40 countries.

The Mustang II has long been a misunderstood Mustang but it is part of the Mustang Heritage and carried the Mustang name through some extremely rough times.

As one owner has put it "There is more Falcon in your Mustang than Pinto in mine"

I have an 87 GT convertible, I was at a Mustang show (unofficial) and a guy started making fun of a guys "Mustang 2", the owner walked over to him and said "and what Mustang do you have" ? The guy said "A 1990 GT, a much better car" The Mustang 2 owner responded with "Well you can thank the Mustang 2 for keeping the Mustang line selling, alive, and operating through a gas crisis that would have killed any other model of car on the production line, the Mustang 2 is the reason you were able to get your 1990 GT" LOL, THE GUY WAS RIGHT !

I believe that mustangs are very cool. the value is up on certain models. take for instance the 1970 boss 302 or the 19641/2. if you want to see some nice mustangs. go to Barrett auctions or go to a mustang club via the web.

one of my favorites, that I owned and sold like a dingdong is the 1971 super cobra jet with a 429 . that was the fastest stock vehicle that i have ever owned. my second fav is a 67 fastback with a 329.

But i must say the new 07's are sweet too.
the gt's are good, but they are expensive expecially if you want a Saleen.

My first mustang substitute right into a 'seventy seven Cobra II. What a exciting vehicle. in spite of the undeniable fact that it will be a real chore to make you 'seventy 8 right into a intense overall performance vehicle. The engine bay is purely great adequate to place a 302 into. yet there is not any room for top Po headers. regrettably there is not any longer alot of intense overall performance aspects for those autos. are not getting me incorrect, i like the 'seventy 4 via 'seventy 8 Mustangs yet whilst ya choose greater bang for the dollar attempt to locate an '87 or greater moderen V8.

Yes, all Mustangs are cool :)

the Cobra II's and King Cobras were nice little cars and top collectible with the fastbacks next and then the coupes last

they were the right car at the right time, right at the start of the oil embargo, with Ford sellilng millions of them!

If its a KIng Cobra its very cool just like the V8 Vega or 1st gen V8 Nova. Who wouldn't want a small lightweight car with V8 power as a weekend driver.
