Ok so if you don't believe in god (which lets face it is hardly on a par with genocide) he throws you into hell of eternal pain. And he can do this whilst still being benevolent how?

Better still, how can a benevolent super being allow trillions to spend time on earth in crippling poverty. Free will is not involved in the aftermath of earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. You bible freaks just can't think for yourself.

This is due to an entirely human error. Hell 'the eternal torment' is described by the word SHEOL in the bible (apologies that I don't know the spelling). In the original translation SHEOL translates as 'the common grave', the place where we all go. However due to a translation error from the original Hebrew into Latin around the time on the roman emperor Constantine the word 'hell' came to embody an entirely more sinister meaning. Due to a catholic belief that what is true on earth must be the same in heaven (and as a result hell) the concept of hell was created. Although it seems a bit presumptuous to say that god has to create a pit of fire for the wicked because of someones mistake, don't you think. Hope this helps.

God never claimed to be a "benevolent super being". That word isn't even in the bible (which people would know if they read it). Don't just run with rumors that you hear about things without proof. Would you want someone going around describing you inaccurately? Or would you rather have someone discover who you are by having a relationship with you?

He is a God of justice. Deut. 32:4 states, " He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he." Find out who God is for yourself instead of judging him by the ignorance of others.

How can a benevolent super being allow half a million people to perish in a tsunami, and yet numerous athletes praise God after catching a touchdown or hitting a homerun. Like God is responsible for touchdowns but not drownings.

The lake of fire will NOT burn ETERNALLY. The wages of sin is death, the wicked will burn for their sins. The CONCEPTION of an ever-burning, hell is NOT BIBLICAL.
Are you gonna be civil and open minded about this, or where you trying to prove some kind of point by using a question?
If opened mind about this go to this link and READ the lesson Is The Devil In Charge Of Hell (excuse the caps, I wish we had wp attibutes).

God and sin do not abide together and Sin & Sinners have to be destroyed.

Because he is merciful but also MUST be just...if we do not follow his laws, he cannot just say "oh well, i'll let you pass." If he was not just, he could not be God. He has standards, rules, and is perfect...and no "unclean" thing can be in his presence...that is where repentance and the atonement step in.
Also...I am sure he doesn't WANT to lose any of his children, but at the same time, wanted us to have a mortal experience and therefore be subject to temptation, pain, suffering and happiness, joy, family...

You can ask him when you die. By the way, while not as powerful, satan is a super being. It always amazes me that atheists feel they would lose their identity as individuals if they become christians yet feel god would be horrible for holding them resposible for those same decisions. There is ultimate truth which means there is consequences for sin. If you are made aware of this fact and choose to disobey it, who's at fault. Who is guilty, the murderer or the judge who decides the sentence?

Not that I believe in that sort of thing being that it is almost physically impossible for one Omnipotent being to transcend over all. It just doesn't sound right at all. But my point is this the suffering isn't caused by God/gods/goddesses/Allah/Buddha or whatever faith I missed, all pain is really because of people's greed and weak minds that is why it has been going on for so long. Because there have always been people around to witness it.

duality and freewill

Free will is limitless so what do you expect. Consider helping some animal when they need something, they become dependent.

Many people have a debate about miracle healing etc but ya know if the knowledge known by some men could speak this would help but again we have a dependence issue.

Eternity?
Not until that person learns his or her lessons?
What's the point of doing something like that?
I bet someone in the ancient times made that up to threaten everybody to go to their church and listen to their nonsense.
Other wise God is a Sadist(which can't be)
