Real. This year our Yule tree is a live one in a pot. It's the first time we've done that. Usually we get a cut tree, and when the season is over, we trim off the branches and cut the tree up; the biggest piece of the trunk we use to make a Yule log for the next year's Solstice.

This year we're keeping extra cut branches to burn in ritual fires later in the year. Right now they are part of the decoration for the house.

I like knowing that the live tree we have will carry over the memories and the energy of this year's Solstice celebration into future Yules, but I'll be happier when the tree is bigger. I only could put around 1/5 of the decorations on it.

I would have to say a real tree. It's beautiful and fun to go pick out! Plus the smell is amazing. It takes some care though. And it will be leave little messy needles on the floor. But for me it is so worth it to have a real tree. Just be careful there are way too many fire hazards out there during christmastime!

Real ones smell nice and look very good

Fake ones leave less of a mess and don't look so bad.

You can dress the fake one up to look and smell like the real one.... but the real one is a fire hazard and will leave a mess no matter what you do......

I'm thinking the "New Real Xmas Tree" is a fake that you can box up for next year in 30 minutes or less.

Real trees! But---Fake are better for small apartments, places with fireplaces, and you don't have to water it every day. I have good memories as a child from Christmases past when we had real trees.
