Do you have a volunteer center in your area? I'd start there, as they'll be very much in tune with opportunities in your community.

You can also check with your local United Way. They may also have a volunteer center that can help you. (http://www.national.unitedway.org)

If you're looking on line, I'd try either the Points of Light Foundation (http://www.pointsoflight.org) or the Corporation for National and Community Service (http://www.cncs.gov)

Good luck!

-- This time of year, you can call just about any church in your area. Many of them will be packing and delivering Christmas dinners for people. That is a good volunteer project.
-- There is a government site at http://www.volunteer.gov
-- There is a real need with non-profits for specific help, like building web sites, doing accounting work, etc, so if you have specific skills, you might want to go to http://www.volunteersolutions.org -- this is run by the United Way, and will have some really solid opportunities.

Best of luck to you, and kudos for making an effort.

If you want to volunteer in your area; find something you are interested in; then contact that business and contact the Volunteer coordinator. If they do not have a volunteer coordinator talk to the employees about volunteering there.

There are all kinds of things you can do.

Contact your library, food bank, churches, hospital, or even contact the poor and needy directly and offer to take them to the grocery store, Doctor appointments, etc.

Just look for opportunities to volunteer and help where you can.

Look in your phone book. It usually has special listings in a small few pages, and some of them are volunteer opportunities. Another place to ask is your church.
