I am sure it is the chemical makeup of the drug and how it counter ac's (sp) with your system. We are all make up of molecules, cells, etc.
Not everyone is made up with the same systems.

It can help because is is an allergy medication. Benadryl helps better but should not be taken at the same time as Zyrtec because of increased sedation. If you are itching from Percocet, you need to stop taking this medication.

Percocet is an opiate, and all opiates can cause itching. (Opiates given intrathecally - into the spinal fluid - can cause itching up to 90% of the time)
The reasons behind the itching involve both central and peripheral mechanisms, but the centrally mediated mechanisms appear to be more important clinically. These involve seratonin and opiate receptors in the central nervous system.
In other words, in order for the drug to work, it binds to receptors. In addition to relieving pain, these receptors also cause itching. It has nothing to do with allergy, although, if you are allergic to an opiate, you might have itching for that reason as well. (That would be a peripheral release of histamine from mast cells)
Opiate induced pruritis (itching) can be reversed with naloxone, which is an opiate antagonist. Unfortunately, it can also reverse the analgesia (pain relief).
Hope that answers your question.

If you are experiencing itching while taking percocet....STOP TAKING IT IMMEDIATELY. You could be experiencing an allergic reaction which may be mild at first. I would call your Dr and let him know ASAP what is happening so that he can change the medication. Some people are sensitive to ingredients but a slight variation in the medicine can save your life.

Your body is not accepting the chemical makeup of the drug and therefore it is releasing "histamines", which cause an effect on the tiny little nerves in your skin, but can also affect your airway as in the case of a severe reaction... these are what make you itch....can also cause whelps, red spots, and many other things. It depends on how much histamine your body produces...You can combat this by taking an "antihistamine" like Benadryl.
