Yes, you can forgive, but sometimes forgetting is the hardest! Just because you forgive doesn't not mean that you shouldn't forgotten what happened. That experience should make you smarter, wiser, and stronger, giving you thicker skin so that you can handle the next problem gracefully.
Think about it like this: In order to make it to heaven, sometimes you have to forgive so that the good Lord can forgive you for all you've done. Remember that nobody is perfect, and yes, at some point in your life, you are going to get hurt.
Forgiveness is important because life is way too short to still hold grudges towards someone or about something that happened a while ago. Anger and bitterness just consumes too much of a person, and it doesn't do any good for them to be like this! Of course, you have a natural right to be angry. But you have to remember to free yourself from the pain of your "injury," you have to forgive so that you can open yourself to happiness, peace, and love. And another thing, retalitating aganist the person who has wrong you does not make the situation better! It makes things worse. It's like this: "Bless those who curse you, Be kind to those who wrong you, and pray for those who mistreat you." All of these things are very true!!
Remember, in order to be the bigger person, you have to forgive so that you can move on with your life!! There are much more exciting things for you to enjoy and experience than to sit around and have animosity towards someone or something that has either done you wrong or happened!! Be blessed!!

The bible teaches us we need to forgive in order to be forgiven. I am not sure about the forgetting part. I believe that only God can throw our sins in the sea of forgetfulness. I know when people do things to me I can forgive but it is hard for me to forget but I do try.

I believe that God is the only one who can truly forgive and remembers it no more. In my mind this means it is not forgotten rather it is not recalled.

When we truly forgive and turn it over to God the hurt and the anger or sorrow is gone when it is remembered. For me this is my barometer, so to speak, on if I have truly forgiven in word and in spirit. If I still retain some hurt or emotional attachment to the "incident" then I again ask God to change me and remove whatever I am holding on to that I have not forgiven and let go of.

I believe that forgiveness is the most powerful gift we have, whether given or received. It is one thing to pray for an answer and another to be an answer to prayer. When we forgive it opens us up and when we don't it closes us up. By forgiving we do our self a service and when we withhold forgiveness a disservice. You can open up a whole new world for someone, including your self, by dying to your own feelings and letting God's Spirit work in your life.

I can forgive but I don't forget. But my perspective on the matter changes, so forgetting is really not necessary.
