J - Like my situaton, >20 yrs bing obese ( >30%). How much U need 2 lose b-cause if imperative how fast lb/da. Tip do exercise U like ex sport? Like bike, boat, canoo, swim, Karate, Tai-Chi exer-cise every day. Do some hard work total 1hr/ every day. Exer-cise when hungry or full is stressful. Some fat types better than others. Avoid saturated, ex fried/ bread. Better dairy, fish. No snacks other than dairy, fruit & veggies esp avoid hi calories.

If you want to lose weight...and your picture shows you're probably a guy... eat between 1600 and 2000 calories per day.

Make 20% of those from fat (that = 320 to 400 calories, which = 35.5g to 44.4g of fat per day), and make that fat all unsaturated (poly and mono). This means--NO TRANS FATS! they are horrible for your weight and your heart health/... and limited saturated fats. Examples: nuts, salmon, flaxseed, etc.

Make 15% of those calories from protein (240 to 300 calories, or 60g to 75g of protein per day). Make that LEAN proten. I.e. NOT red meats--and if you insist on eating some red meat--make it EXTRA LEAN... Examples of lean protein: white meat turkey, chicken, and fish.

Make 65% of your calories from carbohydrates ( 1040 to 1300 calories, or 260g to 325g of carbohydrates per day). Make that complex carbohydrates, high fiber, and NOT refined sugar. Aim for 38g of fiber per day, and examples of complex carbs = whole grain / whole wheat foods, pasta, etc.

As always--consume 5 to 9 cups of fruit and vegetables each day--i know its cliche, but its right. It has fiber, low calorie, low fat, high antioxidants which are great!

Exercise: 30 to 60 minutes of cardio will do. Don't overdo it, but get your heart pumping for a little bit each day. Walking counts, as does any running, biking, etc.

Write down everything you eat, including portion sizes, because many people overestimate , thus leading to weight gain, etc.

Last but not least.. LOTS of WATER! Keeps you hydrated, full, and feeling great.
