The reason of idolism belive is created from ancient time before chirst and mohammad. It is a stone age way of making you to concentrate your mind in one point. Who says idols don't eat sleep move.
There was a wide spread of Hind Lord Ganesh [The elephant god] Drinking milk all over trhe world. Be it stone curboard, picture or paper made. How do you explain this.
The statue of mother mary's eyes bleed blood once a year if not in France or greece. It is also and idol. Christ on the cross hang on churches and home is also an idol. The great mecca mosque also hold a black box in the center which contain a big rock is also an idol.
The purpose of it is in one's mind to focus. Mind is difficult to control. Once you manage to focus and concentrat on the idol and object, your brain waves and nervous start to work faster and excersice your brain waves.
Idols were before technology. Technology changes but not one faith througt out the century. Because the truth don't change

Since you wrote "not meant to offend anyone. im curious and have the right to ask and u have the right to answer."
And to that I will add "right to answer or not."
It is a good and valid Q?
We are all individuals, I do not consider myself as Idol worshipper, but if I see a beautiful statue I would buy it, then I do not care if it is a god, goddess, Hindu, Greek, Roman..........
Now once I have that or some one presents me with good intentions then I would respect it, as much as any one believing in it.
Some people believe in the pictures of God Goddess and Prophets and angels and saints. They may have certain hopes and aspirations about them, in 60 lots of people had a statue on their cars dash board of a Saint Christopher(believed), they were hoping that it will protect them some how, this was their belief. It gave them inner peace and peace of mind.
Most people know that most statues are created using "Live human models". Same with "Pictures" since the invention of camera. Before that it was live model or just some artist's imagination. Churches, temples are full of this. Nativity arrays...
I hope this will get you started to understand the individuality of other people and you may even come up some day with few more reasons for peoples behaviours.......

God is everywhere, we can worship. Even stone is a living being. ofcourse it cannot breath like us, But it gives shapes the way of art we want the stone to be. That;s a art of being living in the world for enough than us. There you can see god in the form of art which is living for many years.
Don;t think every non living things cannot help us. Tree gives shade to people who walk by. Plants gives us food to vegitarians.
stone gives an art. it is all upto you how you make things. So people belive worship idol asuming it is god.
For science, we seperate saying living and non living things. It is just to learn things. That;s it. But for god, it is all equal. No difference in living or non living things. All are same. Each has it own personality and specality.
We belive that when you pray the idols as god, The god sends his love and affection through the idols. That;s it.You can even ask him why not he give his affection and love directly and why through the idols. Since you pray through idols, you get it through idols, if you ask directly, god will approch you directly. There is nothing wrong in praying idols.
Since you belive idols as god. god does not wants to cheat you. So god is being the idol and giving his love and affection to you.

You have not offended me....
Most worship a small wooden item (being made in China 'dirt-cheap' currently by the way). The way they look at it and adore it, seemingly the less it does for them (they are usually wasting quite a it of time and money doing this, quite sad really).
There are of course metal ones and sometimes even PLASTIC ones and they can be found everywhere of course.
Some prefer to hide it on 'private altars' only they can touch.
Other are brazenly open about this worship of the 'idol'.
Still others are caught in-between and show it only to people close to them whom they trust.

from the story, Abraham's father was a Sculptor who made idols for a living or something.
one of the stories anyway, tells of abraham, when he was young, showing the falsehoood of the idols by smashing them...
anyway, in a modern sense I don't think most even realize they are worshipping an idol, but cant see the distinction between worshipping an idol and not.
Many christians have this problem.

For a normal man the mind is wavering always ! if U ask him to pray Supreme power at empty place ...it may be difficult..so The idol may make him/her to concentrate for a moment to offer prayers and worship to reduce crimes in the world..nothing wrong in it as long it serves good cause...but pl do not fight and kill your fellow beings in the name of idol worship

It was said here that people don't do this anymore.. I don't know where they live by I see it on my own street. Someone will buy a new car and you would think it was alive how they baby it. You can't even look at it wrong without getting a stern lecture. Anytime we put something above the Lord God it's an idol... Jim

why idol is needed theoretically and scientifically.
basically if are sitting in front of idol it increases the concentration if you are seeing something constantly. and nothing else . if you have such high concentration that by seeing once you can imagine him than it is fine there is no need of putting the idol for worship.
or what is your concept of worship i do not know. but the purpose of idol is said above.

Though I don't worship idols I know why they worship.
They believe him to be omnipresent .He needs only something to concentrate on, to worship him
If you are a believer do you know all about god and can you fully define god.
If you don't believe god then it is only a story. In that case I think Hindu stories are more fascinating.

Not much different then worshiping a god that doesn't eat, sleep, move etc. It's all based on faith. We have faith in our Idols the same way you have faith in your god.
