I used to be best friends with this girl, but we haven't been "best friends" for almost 5 years. There's no friction between us though. I want something special for her besides being a bridesmaid. Any suggestions?

Why not ask her to be your "special helper" in getting your dress and that type stuff on, you're brides maids and maid of honor will be helping but more then likely they will also need to be doing their last minute "sprucing". I did this for my niece, I didn't have any part in her wedding, this made me feel special that she asked me to help and it was special for her too. If you're not really close enough to this friend to have her helping with the corset and all the other under the dress torture things you're gonna be putting on, then maybe ask her to help with the reception, guest book, candle lighter...

When my wife and I got married, way back in the Jurassic period, I had two best friends that I wanted to include in the ceremony. One was just a normal guy, but , well the other one was more than a bit on the wild side, and my wife's family was afraid he'd mess up the ceremony somehow. But I'd known him since the first grade, and wasn't about to get married without one of my best, long time "buds" there with me. So what I did was ask the "normal" guy to be my best man, and Mr. Wild Side was given a special place to sit with my family right in the front row. He was told that it was a seat of honor for him because of our longstanding friendship. The wedding went off without a hitch, and Mr. Wild Side is forever ingrained in the wedding photos sitting in his seat of honor with the rest of my family. (He wasn't really THAT bad...)
Perhaps this might work for you. A seat of honor for a special friend. You can sneak a glance, and maybe a wink at her during the ceremony, and she'll know that she's still special in your life.

guest book attendant
seating attendant
she can read a poem or verse during the ceremony
she can escort the flower girl if the flower girl is really young
she can give a toast during the reception
also- you can include her in the planning. have her help w/ hair or make-up on the big day. or have her go dress shopping or cake tasting with you.
hope this helps :D

I had my old college roommate read a scripture passage. It had probably been a good 15 years since we really hung out.
