Would you be o.k. with allowing people of all faiths to pray in class whenever they wanted to?
Would it be acceptable if a Muslim teacher started out each class with a Muslim prayer to Allah?
Would it be acceptable for Mormon kids to try to convert YOU during class time?
There IS freedom of speech in schools. At the school I teach at, there is a Christian Club. In addition, students (and teachers) can pray whenever they want (I do!). No one can tell me not to close my eyes and make a quick prayer to God whenever I want to.
The key is creating an environment where all students- Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, atheist, etc.-feel that their beliefs are respected. I fear that the environment you are proposing would make conservative Christians happy while excluding all others.

1. Schools have not banned people from praying. They simply cannot support or sponsor prayer (i.e. over the PA) nor can it disrupt learning time.
2. You CAN read a Bible during free time, if you choose.
3. Speech is not free in every place and in every form. Schools can limit speech in order to perform their given service.
You simply have an incorrect understanding of these issues.

Even the most acceptable acts are not appropriate when done at inappropriate times and in inappropriate places. Even the most patriotic soul in the country would consider it wrong for someone to stand up and sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" in the middle of the pastor's sermon. I'm not sure to what states and court cases you're referring, but schools are not for religious proselytizing, they're for getting an education. So long as they are not interfering with this primary purpose, no American, even though a minor, should be barred from reading the scripture of his choice or discussing his faith with others.

America is the land of the free. Not the land of the confort. You will get offended by something and thats allowed to happen with freedom of speech. Some people don't realize that though unfortunately and try to ban things they don't like.

You make sense. I did not see the word hell in your question.
I know of no school that will not allow a student to bring a bible. It is not allowed to force anyone to pray. I don't know for sure about silent prayer. As far I know that is allowed.
That is all I ask. I do not want my child forced to believe one way and forced to participate in something he does not choose.
Personally, I think you make a big mistake to allow children to believe everything they read in the bible.

Someone has been listening to too much of that conservative radio!
Praying in public school is not illegal. Anyone is allowed to pray silently if they so wish. What IS illegal is forcing kids to pray or setting out time in the school day to pray.
Also, bibles are not illegal in public schools. If a student owns a bible (or any other religious text), it isn't illegal to bring it to school and even read it (though he/she will get in trouble if he/she is reading it while he/she is supposed to be doing their work.) What IS illegal is if a public school buys bibles (or any other religious text) and/or forces students to study them.
Educate yourself before you open your mouth. You might not look like such a ******* idiot next time.

Your last words say it all---''represent what christ was about''.
There are many different religions and none but Christianity look at Jesus as G-d. Therefore, it is not right for Christians to talk about and preach about their religion. You have no right to tell people -particularly children-about your religion. They can learn their own religion at home, and if you talk about Christianity at school, you can confuse them, and this is not fair.

There's no cigarettes, porn or booze there either. It's not a church or a bar. Let the little tykes develop some critical thinking skills then hit them with the addictive substances.

Atheists and Gays voice their anger and protest if they are denied their so called basic rights, and yet they deny the same basic rights to Christian people, and they constantly use the freedom of speech cliche to say what they like in putting down other peoples views,is it any wonder that the nation is in such a poor state.
