It originated as a Pagan holiday. Since, it has been transformed into a holiday in which Christians celebrate the birth of our Savior (when he was born isn't important). It's the same way ripping off an entire country transformed into a time of Thanksgiving. Although I tend to only celebrate the former, people who observe the latter deserve their respect, too.

Because of silly little quotes in government documents like: "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion". Go figure. Some people like to read words and understand what they mean. Nasty habit.

talk to the atheists and spineless christians.
oh, and the christians who keep trying to make it public, and get everyone to celebrate it. that encourages its secular-ization, rather than keeping it religious.

Good question. Some Jew was complaining that an airport wasn't displaying a menorah a week or so back...Why do people forget that the USA was founded on Christian principles?

Oh, another "they're persecuting me" Christian. That's such a clever idea, for about thirty seconds, for the persecutor to take on the guise of persecuted to get his way. Sort of like how two total strangers who are gay getting married just tears you to bits, ruins your sanctimoniously Christian marriage and mocks "God", etc., etc., and you -- not the gays you persecute -- are the ones whining about it. How sad.
