Stay with XP. Vista will have bugs, and also has MASSIVE hardware requirements - 1gb Ram, and a graphics card which supports DirectX 9 (and that's just the minimum!). For full Vista Aero ability, you need special Aero-ready graphics cards (the funny thing is that nobody knows what graphics cards ARE Aero-ready).

Even Dell, perhaps the world's largest computer vendor, refuses to commit itself on its web site to stating which of its PCs (even the XPS series) are Aero-capable. If Dell don't know what's going on, how on EARTH are regular people supposed to know? lolol........

All the old-timer computer guys I've heard say that they always wait for the first Service Pack before switching to the new version of Windows. That usually takes a year, and by then the bugs have been worked out, you no longer need expensive top-of-the-line hardware for it to work well, and features are also usually added with the first SP.

I'm not going to upgrade to Vista ever; it's better to buy a computer that comes with Vista installed already, you're guaranteed to have the right drivers and it will come with hardware that's meant to be Vista capable.

If you're really itching for Vista, I recommend picking up a new computer from Dell or Compaq, etc, sometime around February or March.

Maybe, but wait until it's been out at least a year and any necessary patches have been brought out.

You'll also have to check your PC can handle it, if not replacing your existing one. here's a test to see if it'll handle it: http://www.pcpitstop.com/vistaready/default.asp
