Will the same people on here trying to breed their dogs be trying to reproduce their children when they become of age? Just because you really love your dog and it has papers, doesnt mean it is breeding stock. Hopefully you will love your children more than your dog. Does that mean when they are old enough to reproduce you will encourage that?

Just so you know I already expect certain people to disagree.

People time and time again say they want to breed their particular dog because "I just love it so much" That is not a reason to breed. People for some reason tend to think of their dogs as their BABIES. That is where the compaison comes in.

That is why some people have a kid with EVERY guy or girl that they are with. They love them SOOOO much that they want a baby by them. They feel the same about animals. If they think people can reproduce all over the place...why can't animals???

Really warped, but true. That is why the world is where it is. Maybe that is why Gang calls them "human spawn"....they are like spawn the way some people pop them out left and right.
May not be a popular view, but it IS true!!!! I see it EVERY day!!!

......and YES they would do that to their kids!!! It would be a HAPPY day when the kids started popping out kids of their own with anyone who was willing!!!!

I totally agree with you here.

I realize that every breeder had to start somewhere, but the good ones do their research on the breed, get to know other breeders of their breed so they can learn more from them, become members of local clubs to enhance their knowledge, are VERY picky about their breeding, are sometimes grueling with questions to the potential families that may want a puppy, and they don't just breed a dog because it has "papers" and they can.

I have considered breeding for many years. Some day (6-10 yrs) I might, but in the mean time, I am self educating, becoming a member of my local clubs and basically putting my nose into the world of dogs as much as possible so that IF I make the decision to do so, it is a well informed and educated one.

I just don't think choosing to breed is something people should wake up one day and say "hey, let's breed my dog" and then do it. Research, research, learn, educate, research, make friends in breeding circles, research and if you're lucky, find a breeder who will mentor you in the first few years to help you be a successful, ethical, and responsible breeder.

Boggles the mind does'nt it?

By the way tho-what do you mean by "reproducing their children when they come of age"?
Most people think it's acceptable to start breeding with the first heat cycle which comes as early as 6 mos.Comparing the age of a 6 month old dog to a human child then they'd be allowing their children to mate and have babies before they hit puberty!
I wonder if they'd stand around and watch to make sure the deed was truly done as they do with dogs.
I love my dog very much.He has papers and he's a very handsome german shepherd but honestly I would'nt want another one like him.He does however have alot of qualities that I would like to someday try to improve upon with breeding to the right female.
Please note that I said someday and also that I did not mention his color.I feel that color is the most IGNORANT reason people use to breed 2 animals.

I wanted my liver and tan doberman to have a litter of pups when she got to 2 years of age. Unfortunately she has many health problems i refuse to put on any one else in the form of puppies. Many people were disappointed by my decision to have her spayed because her temperment and conformation is such that if i chose the right sire she would have beautiful champion pups. Even tho she is spayed she has fostered 2 litters of abandoned pups (and lactated). Now is that a dog that wants pups or what. A dogs most primal urge is to reproduce the species. Many people make the mistake of breeding dogs they shouldnt, thats how my dobe ended up with many problems caused by bad breeding. But many people do breed dogs that improve the breed and many people also neuter or spay dogs that wont. A family pet is just that, a family pet but its also up to each individual as to whether or not they breed their dog. The only ones i disagree with are those who put no thought into lineage or suitability and those who breed designer dogs. Its all well and good to say you get the best of both breeds, but you can also get the worst. A maltipoo or puggle is nothing more than a cross bred mutt.

I think I understand part of the question..........
My interpretation of it is that people need to be responsible breeders and not just breeding any dog with papers because there are too many starving animals out there, that come from neglectful owners, puppies that werent wanted. Also people breeding dogs with problems, diseases, or bad bloodlines.
However, I do not understand the comparison to them trying to reproduce their children online as well. I dont really have any other comment on that part of the question because I do not understand, what would make you think of that? I do not think that the type of person that would look for studs or bitches to breed their dog with online would be the same type that would try to breed their child online. Sorry, but the whole idea just seems sort of absurd to me.

Most people are clueless about raising kids, and it should be a requirement that you need 2 years of study of child behavior before having kids.Being a good parent should always be the most important thing to any parent. Being second rate just does not cut it. Kids are growing up so spoiled and without discipline than ever before. They don't know the first thing about responsibility because parents give them everything and the kids do not have to do anything in return, no chores, nothing. All kids should have chores ti do or they grow up to be lazy grownup kids that think the parents job of paying for everything until either the parent or the grown kid dies. My husband has a brother and a sister who spoiled their kids rotten. These "kids" are in their 30's and 40's and the parents are still paying for everything, and now have grandkids and great-grandkids they are supporting too. Loving your kids means so much more than buying the latest fashion style of clothes for them, the latest tech toys, etc. It means teaching them responsibility, and to work for what you want. If you spoil your kids too much those kids will never grow up and cut the apron strings.

My husband's bosses(man and wife) are multimillionaires. Their kids work for spending money and they are 2 of the nicest young ladies you could meet.

I would love to take all the BYB and put them in the pound or abusive and neglecting homes and see how they like it. But for them, nothing beats making a fast buck.

I don't have any children, but if I did I would. Seriously, you do understand that animals aren't people don't you? I love my pets and I'm not about to take up breeding any animals, but that is how pure bred animals are made. I don't even like purebreds but some people do and that is their choice.

That's an interesting analogy. I personally don't breed my dogs, I have them all fixed, but thanks for a thought-provoking idea.
