Geee, this is hard.. Maybe you could order a soft drink instead? If they ask why you could ummmmm I have it tell them you don't drink... That's what I do... Jim

Go to the dinner party, and then just drink soda, or water, or whatever you want to drink. As long as you don't make a big issue out of it, you're not ruining anything. I don't drink often, because I have a very weak stomach for alcohol, and if I'm offered a drink I'll just say, "I'll just have some water, thank you." or "I'll have a ginger ale, thank you." People are usually cool about it. They don't care, and certainly wouldn't be offended if you choose not to drink alcohol. Why should they care?

Even if you are invited "over for a few drinks", it's still OK to just drink water, or soda, or whatever you want. The reason people invite you is for your company, not to get you drunk.

Well, like the first person said. A lot of people don't drink for many reasons so simply say I'd love to hang out, but I don't drink alcohol. They shouldn't have a problem with it. You may get prodded a little or teased, but don't take it personally. A lot of people will respect your choice.

Just drink a sprite with a lemon wedge.
Only you and the bartender will know the difference.
You do not need to drink to have fun.

I think people would find it more rude to not show.

EDIT - Even with a small party, you have to ask yourself one question: Is the purpose of this party for a bunch of people to get drunk? Or is it for people to get together to socialize and they happen to have a few drinks while they are there?

If it is just going to be a drunk fest, stay away, most people do not need a bunch of drunks around anyway.

If it is just a social gathering, go have fun and follow my earlier advice.

Respectful people will be just fine with your decision not to drink.

Don't go. If they are freinds, they will understand your position. find people who do not drink to hang out with, there are plenty of things to do over the holidays that do not involve drinking. There is nothing rude about being uncomfortable.

Just drink something else non-alcoholic. I see this at parties all the time. No big deal.

Your friends will understand. Take a Pepsi, take a Coke along with you. Not everyone drinks. I don't and it doesn't stop me from accepting invitations.

You just go and drink something without alcohol. It's not about drinking.

Oh, and be the designated driver.

In a bar, order soda or juice with lime and no one will know, if you're concerned about that. In someone's house, just ask for something non-alcoholic. If you're a guest in their house, they are obligated not to make you feel uncomfortable.

Stand by your convictions. I don't drink and wouldn't go for drinks with anyone. Just say, Thanks , but I don't drink.
