He is craving wood because he needs minerals in his diet give him these for three months and then he will stop. A vet could tell you what ones would be best for your dog. Here is a phone number for people minerals 1-800-982-3189 this company is called American Longevity, the product that i am referring to is called full spectrum Minerals, I think it would be o.k. to give your dog these at one tablespoon in his water a day as long as you change his water every day P.S. Audio tape from this company called "Dead Doctors Don't Lie" . Merry Christmas!

It's fairly normal. Keep an eye on him to make sure that he doesn't get splinters or small sticks wedged across the roof of his mouth. Unless he's eating wood to an unhealthy degree, there's nothing to be worried about -- I never knew a dog that didn't chew on sticks, especially big dogs.

My puppy does the same thing. I have to go out with him every time he goes outside. Make sure the big pieces of wood are out of your yard. If your dog is eating furniture, buy a spray at petsmart that smells bad (to animals) and spray it in his favorite places to chew. it wont harm anything- and it works

Sounds like he/she is teething. A good idea is to get a "Kong" and fill it with peanut butter that should keep 'em busy for a while.
Then some bones would also be good, but be sure to take them away if there is excessive bleeding in the gums.
