So at my school we all have our own person acconts. BUT the "administrators" have set it so we can't do things such as change our desktop backgrounds. Does anyone have any idea if there is a way to over-ride this????

Not to be rude, but if your administrators wanted you to change things they would have given you access to do so.

By locking the machines down, they are able to create a more homogenous environment (computer-wise); this makes their job easier and ultimately an easier, better computing experience for you.

There are ways around it, but instructing you on how to do so goes firmly against my ethics. Not to mention it most likely will violate any TOS or usage policy your school has, and can only result in you getting into trouble.

My suggestion is to keep any computer personalization on your own machine.

KRB,

An administrator can limit your access to some XP features.
You can't overide that unless you buy an icecream to the administrator and ask him when he is drunk what is his : user name &password in order to over-ride.

Want to try a third party tool? Be my guest but you might have to find yourself another school when they realize what happened.

Joe.

Not without knowing the administrator username and password. Your just going to have to live with it unless you can appeal to the powers that be to change their policies.

Just live with what you are allowed if you don't want to get in trouble with the school administrator. After all, it's not your property and you ought to respect that.

sorry,

You'd have to log on as the Administrator.

They're locked down so you can't mess with the configuration of the system. It'll probably be like that when you join the workforce, so you might as well get used to it.

It's NOT your machine, so please don't mess with it or we'll yank your access.

1) There's a good chance that everything you do on that box is being tracked (or at least saved to their server)
2) If you attempt to by-pass security, they'll find out, and install stricter regs
3) It's not your box. Don't mess with it.
