I am not really giving up anything (religion wise) since I am an atheist to begin with; but I worry quite a lot and I am always getting so worked up about everything. Is it possible that Buddhism would help with my anxiety?

It's worth a try but I would think Confucianism would be the best. Buddhism is a belief much like Hinduism that deals with karma, darma and such. As long as you relax and calm down everything will work out.

I'm sure Buddhism can give you temporary relief from anxiety, but have you looked at what other religions offer? I used to have anxiety attacks, and I was not religious at the time. But my desperation to be set free from the anxiety drove me to research the religion I was raised with: Christianity.

The Bible says a lot about fears. Here is a link to just a few verses that inspire me:

Please check it out. I'm sure it will inspire you as well. I am happy to say that with prayer and reading, my anxiety attacks are long gone.

I find it a little amusing that the ones advocating Christianity all used exclamation points, they don't seem very relaxed. Buddhism in my experience is a beautiful, empowering, calming, spiritual, humorous journey, why not give it a try, if you don't like it, you can always stop doing it.
I agree that yoga is also awesome, and will help keep you focused and not worked up.

Mindful meditation can be quite helpful. There's a book by Jon Kabat-Zinn entitled, "Wherever you go, there you are." He does a good job of describing the meditative process. You don't have to "become" Buddhist, but simply learn and practice the meditation techniques.

Many people have found this practice highly effective in helping manage anxiety and solve habit problems.

I believe Buddhism will certainly settle your mind.

Even simply beginning simple meditation of some kind would help.

Why don't you read some of the philosophy and see how it makes you feel? The breathing exercises alone are bound to help. You don't have to give yourself over to a religion to enjoy some of the benefits! Take what you find helpful.
