She is 12 years old and has had minimal contact with other dogs in life. Do you think a puppy will be a benefit to her or just plain stressful?

no you should just concentrate on the blind dog, as she has had minimal contact through out her life I wouldn't get one now as she would probably fing this stressful.

I would not get a puppy, would get another older dog as they are calmer and more stable and the blind dog will eventually get led around and helped by the other dog. One of the animal shelters in San Bernardino area had a pair like this recently where one dog was blind and the other dog led it around as the blind dog could follow the other dog through sound, scent, and would even get nudged if getting into trouble. I think the blind dog would love the ability to be able to be more active once it learns that it can trust the other dog. Dogs will take care of each other just as people do when one has a problem and I think that would be a wonderful thing to do. Getting a young energetic dog though would have the opposite effect as that was stress the older dog who can't see enough to join in and normally an older dog will actually teach a puppy how to act and this dog can't do that. So many older dogs taht don't have homes you would be doing two good deeds at the same time. :-)

Not a puppy but maybe another adult dog that is already out of the annoying puppy stage. It could provide company and be a guide. A puppy would probably be too much for a blind dog to handle.

I think a young puppy would be stressful However, I have heard of blind dogs benefiting from the companionship of another dog. I would rescue an older dog of six months to a year. Good Luck.

A new puppy would be too stressful for an old dog. She may even hurt it and become very Territorial.

I don't think you need a puppy right now beacuse rigt now your blind dog needs all the attention, And if you get a puppy, he's going to want all the attention beause that's how like puppies are, they want all the attention. And, your blind dog needs the attention right now. He's blind.

The other dog might feel like she's being replaced. I'd hold off on getting another dog.
