I seem to do everything people don't approve of. I'm not like that on purpose it just seems that all my interests and beliefs fall that way. I decided to home school my kids. It is surprising how many people think this is a terrible thing and have all kinds of critical opinions on it. However, I get very little support within the home school community because we are pagan. Most home school families are conservative Christians--at least the ones in our area. On top of all that my hobbies are so different than that of the other moms. I play computer games, love stoner movies, am a huge fan of all Joss Whedon shows, and I collect body art. Needless to say I'm very unpopular with the other mothers who like to get together over coffee to talk about the kids, have scrapbooking crops, quiliting circles and bible reading groups. I'm 32. With the exception of my best friends who are 33 & 34, all my friends are 4-10 years younger than myself.

The other thing that set me apart was my thing about food. I'm a health nut. I believe trans fat is pure poison. My family has been trans fat free for over three years now. We started cutting it before most people knew what it was. On top of that we do our best to limit other preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, food colorings, etc. I also like to eat a mostly vegetarian diet. This doesn't sound too weird now but just a few years ago it was an issue. People thought I was weird. Even friends and family would give me crap. People would get all worked up just because I wanted to read a food label. My own dad actually grabbed a package of dinner rolls from me as I was reading the label and said, "If you can't eat these without reading the label then you don't get one." For some reason my feelings on food really offended other people even though I never got on their cases about what they ate. Anyway, things have changed a lot. Trans fat has gotten a lot of news and more people are trying to eat more natural. So, this doesn't set me apart the way it used to.

I don't really care though. Every choice I make seems to make me an outcast but I'm being true to myself. I really don't care what other people think. Life is too short to worry about some narrow minded person. The people in my life accept me for who I am. They're the only people who matter.

I would not care, regardless that while you suppose approximately it, it's lovely atypical. I wager I might seem at the truth that she is just about two times his age, and albeit such a lot 19 12 months olds come throughout as morons in my view, I'm no longer even 34 but. I can not fathom having a dating with one. Now watching at a couple of, I can see the enchantment of bare time, simply no longer a dating. I consider the equal manner while guys date females part their age. It's atypical. I decide on much less of an age hole for my part.

Wow! There are some really refreshing responses here. My wife and I make our decisions after researching endlessly. We get a lot of flack from our families for not doing things according to the status quo....natural and drug-free childbirth, delayed and limited vaxing, all organic products, breast feeding only. We simply care very much for our child and want to give them the very best while protecting her from the ignorance (readily gobbled up by the thoughtless masses) that is perpetually shoved in our faces. Follow your heart, educate yourself ... the right decision is usually fairly easy to make.

Personally, I do what I think is right for me and my family. Popular beliefs change so rapidly, it would be very difficult to keep up.

You gather as much information as you can, from as many sources as you can and sift through and see what makes sense for you and what works.

Basic values such as truth, honour and loyalty don't change and if you stay true to your beliefs, it makes life less complicated and more satisfying.

I think most people actually care about what others think. I tend to not, but I know subconsciously I do care to a certain extent. it's really human nature! You might not care about what a certain group of people think, but you might care about the group you hang around/work with think. But ultimately I go for what I WANT TO DO!!!! And unless in some way "other people" are paying my bills and what not....who care what they think!~right?

I do what I feel is right for myself and family...I do not heed too much thought as to what others' opinions are. 10 years ago i might have cared when I was in my early 20's, but today, the only people I have to please are myself and my family.

Primarily, personal values and what's legal. But my personal values will never guide me to act in a way that will infringe on others' rights or make them feel their beliefs are wrong (as long as no one is getting hurt) .

Hahahahaha I do so many unpopular things:

-Self prenatal care
-Unassisted Childbirth
(These I lie about, I tell family I am seeing a midwife)
-Co-sleep
-Delayed vax
-Child-led introduction to solids (no baby food for my baby, and don't even get me started on baby cereal. AND nutty family trying to feed a TWO MONTH OLD watermelon *sigh*)

Etc, etc, etc. I do tonnes of research on everything, but ultimately I trust my gut.

I care most what people think, and that's probably not my best personality trait

I don't care what other people think unless they are right.
