these are the US Homeports:
Ingleside TX - Kings Bay GA - Little Creek VA - Mayport FL - New London CT - Norfolk VA - Pascagoula MS - Coronado CA - Everett WA - Kitsap WA (formerly Bremerton and Bangor) - North Island CA - Point Loma CA - San Diego CA.
(That's without listing Naval Air Stations!

But also consider bases overseas like Yokuska, Japan - Rota, Spain - Gaeta, Italy - Guantanimo Bay, Cuba and Bahrain.

There are even Navy facilites away from water, in states you might not expect... like The Naval Air Station in Fallon, Nevada - or the one in Atlanta, GA!

Your friends job classification, and how good he is at it, will determine where he will be stationed. The bigger and most advanced ships get the best and the brightest.

Norfolk VA has the highest concentration of Naval personnel in an area, but that also includes Marines, (a division of the Navy).

Norfolk, VA and San Diego are the big surface bases
San Diego, Groton,CT, King's Bay, GA, Pearl Harbor, HI, and Bangor,WA are the big Sub bases.

It depends on what job your friend is doing and whether or not your friend is a submarine volunteer. There are bases all over.

east coast is Norfolk, Va. west coast is San Diego, Ca.. just because those are the 2 biggest bases don't mean that is where he will be going! Depends on his job, what kind of ship he goes to, and even more importantly the needs of the Navy. Now that I think about it you might want to tell him to get use to the term "Needs of the Navy" because that is what he is about to hear.

Norfolk, Va. is the biggest naval installation in the world. Where he is stationed can depend on his job and where he stands in relation to his class at A School (usually top in class gets first choice of orders, and so on)

Norfolk, VA is the largest naval installation in the world, but he could end up in a lot of different places. If he volunteers for submarines, there are a lot less places he could be stationed.
