Get some four-conductor telephone cable at Radio Shack, enough to run the entire way, as well as a modular telephone jack with screw terminals (print this and take it with you). Keeping the wire colors the same is the key to running an extension jack. Telephone cable is usually four wires bundled together--a yellow, a red, a green and a black. You will most likely be using the green and red. Strip two inches of the grey insulation off of the new cable, and you will see all four colors. Strip off about 1/2" of the insulation from each wire and form the bare copper into a hook shape. Open the existing telephone jack and attach your new wires BY COLOR--that is, your new green goes with the other greens. Make sure no wires from other colors touch--they need to be kept isolated by color, or you will have a "short." Now, at the other end of your new cable, do the same thing--attach the telephone wires to the jack according to their colors. Voila! Extension phone.
