My girlfriend's puppy ran away from home and she's devastated, so I thought I would be really nice if I could give her another one for Christmas, I know i wouldn't make "Kira's" memory fade away but at least i think it would lessen the pain...

The SPCA have dogs for cheap prices and some breeders have them for good prices. If that doesnt work you could check the newspaper for ads

It seems you aren't ready to own a dog. Why was the previous dog allowed in a situation where it could run off? Breeding quality dogs cost money. If you are set on getting a dog try the animal controls, humane societies, and spcas in your area. Do not impluse buy. Dogs live for up 15 years and are a major responsibilty and not a lawn ornament. Christmas is not necessarily the best time to get a dog because of the hustle and bustle. Many dogs are dropped of at shelters after the first of the year because the xmas present puppy wasn't really wanted. Try to visit shelters after the first of the year. If you are truly wanting a dog you shouldn't mind holding off for a little time. Whatever you do, do not go to a pet store

Not sure why her puppy ran away. But if she was well taken care of and just got out, then I suggest Petfinders.com. They have all sorts of dogs in all areas of the country. You can search for your area and by the type of dog you are looking for. Most if not all are from one shelter or another. If you can't find on at a local shelter, try there. Some shelters cost more than others. And most go through an application process, references and home visits, to make sure where their puppies, dogs are going is a safe and loving home. You may not get one by Christmas, but it is a place to start. Make sure she wants another puppy/dog. She may not want the same type, or she may just not be ready for another puppy.

If the puppy "ran" away, then it might not be the right time to get another one. You obviously do not have the right type of environment to nurture a pup.

Consider an older dog that will not try to "escape" you.

Most local animal shelters have all kinds of pets but if they don't have what your looking for they can get in touch with other shelters (at a very low price)
