NEVER NEVER NEVER put Hot compresses on a swollen anything it will make it worse. When you have a swelling that means there is an infection in your body, so For sure use cold. When you have a muscle ach you use cold, Write me if you need to.

Cool compresses, also see if you can find some Similsan
pink-eye drops, they really help. Don't rub your eye, it will make it worse. Feel better soon.

I would say cold only because you use warmth for muscles and cold for swelling.

Hot--will bring out any fluids that might be in there.
