Depends on the type.
Basal cell cancer, the most common type is very curable.
Squamous cell cancer of the skin is also highly curable but can spread through the lymph system and be dangerous.
Melanoma is highly curable if caught early. Late stage or deeply invasive melanomas, can cause death.
Merkel cell skin cancers are very deadly as are sweat gland cancers of the skin

Basal cell carcinoma is a very easily treatable form of skin cancer, the cells need to be excised and then you are skin cancer free, the same goes for squamous cell carcinoma. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer, it can spread to other organs and has the most radical treatment, you need a widely excised area of the lesion and the surrounding skin. Depending on the depth of the cancer, you may need some lymph nodes excised and biopsied and in some cases, chemotherapy is used. If the area of the melanoma is not deep, just a wide excision suggested with follow up visits every 3-6 months forever to make sure none has returned or new areas haven't popped up. This is only a guideline, your dermatologist may treat more radical or more conservative, always follow up with a derm when skin cancer has been found, no matter what type.
