Go online directly to the credit bureaus. No charge to correct errors.

All you have to do is get a copy of your credit report from each of the 3 bureaus. These are free once a year now. Make a copy of the complete report and mark all items that need to be corrected. Use red and highlighters. Send this back along with the dispute form which you need to request when ordering file. You can also enter 100 words on file as to what the problem is. Dont pay a company that does this same thing.

If your report has erroneous information, the credit reporting agency must correct it. If the error is not removed, you have the right to add a 100-word consumer statement to your credit bureau file to explain your side of the story. The three major credit reporting agencies are Experian, Trans Union, Equifax. You can contact them by phone, by mail, or through their websites. If an item is incomplete, the agency must complete the information. Credit reporting agency will give you written results and a free copy of your report.

You can contact the creditors directly and advise them you want to file a dispute. They will tell you everything you need to do to go about it. You may have to do a bit of legwork to provide them with the documentation that they require in some cases, but most times, you will just need to sign an affidavit that the charges are not yours. They may ask you to also file a police report. They are required by law to resolve your credit dispute within 30 days and notify the credit bureaus.

you need to contact the companies involved and inform them about the identity theft and these are not your charges. They will then take the necessary steps to fix it.
