www.fitday.com calculates calorie content per serving of food based on nutrient, carb. ,fat and alcohol content i.e.:
Cals = fat X 9 + (carb - fiber) X 4 + protein X 4 + alcohol X 7
There may be other easier formulae out there but this is the one I use for now. It gets the job done.

The actual experiment involves burning the substance. A measured quantity of food (usually a gram) is burned in a special germ-free tube. An equation is used to calculate the time the food takes to burn and convert it into calories. Calories are actually kilocalories, but the shortened term calories is commonly used in nutrition purposes.

Heya,
It is actually a scientific test that is run on the food that analyses how much energy is contained in a certain amount of a particular food.

Unfortunatly it is not something that we can just calculate by an equasion as it varies food to food.
However if you are wanting to calorie count I would recommend http://www.calorieking.com/shop/11-The-CalorieKing-Pocket-Calorie-Fat-Carbohydrate-Counter-2007-Edition.html

You can carry that around and it has almost every food that I have ever wanted to look up in it (and if it doesnt have the exact food I am sure it will have something close).
Cheers

I am not sure if where u r if on your products it tell u but on the back it will say lets say 250 per serving and then somewhere else around there maybe at the top it will say how many servings in that package so if there r 4 sevings and your package makes 1 cup then u divide 4 into 250 ml which is one cup n your answer is your serving which means you would have 250 caleries for whatever your answer is.
