fireball: That is exactly what I am talking about. You denounce its validity w/o having a clue about the evidence. Why is that?

It is not so much fear of the truth that makes people nervous or upset. It' s more the fear of losing security. Psychological security can make people believe in anything without proof. Some of the things we believe are actually true and they do have proof: the world is now clearly spherical, not a pancake. But those who understood too soon that truth upset those who felt secure in believing that the earth was as the Authorities of the time described it.

It takes both patience and humility to realize we humans don't know everything. We have not found the proof to all our questions. Scientists tend to be honest about what they discover. They have incomplete information and they admit that, but time has backed the idea that new information that does not contradict old information is a pretty darn good method to get closer to the truth.

Religious people, on the other hand, tend to equate truth with whatever they believe in. Contrary to the scientific approach, they tend to make statements of absolute certainty, such as "We KNOW the truth!" or "We HAVE the truth, what else do we need?" Well, their truth only needs a very small thing: PROOF!

I understand what you are driving at here, you object to people appearing to be close minded about something you believe in.

Unfortunately you haven't asked a proper question because you make an assumption about some people 'fearing' evolution. A better question might have been: "What do you believe about Evolution or Creationism and why do you believe it?"

By taking a position on one side you have alienated the other side and so the remarks are likelier to be defensive/offensive as opposed to thoughtful considered replies.

I believe that the universe is made up on the fly, right now, and that the 'past' and the 'future' are illusions created by our minds because we require things to be orderly. Big Bang appears to me to be the Steady State of things and did not happen 4.7 billion years ago or whatever number has more recently been estimated, it happens now, along with everything else.

I believe that we, personally, create everything in the world that we experience; so we have created all the evidence for Big Bang and Evolution as well as all the many religions which each tell different stories about Creation... It is my experience that all of us, taken together, are the co-creators in the ongoing process of the creation of the universe, and that we work with each other in the context of a consensus reality that manages to fit opposing ideals and beliefs together into a commonly shared experience.

If you haven't seen the DVD or movie "What the Bleep do We Know" I highly recommend it, particularly the second release subtitled "Down the Rabbit Hole". Bleep takes a good step toward bringing science and religion together on a quantum path... Cheers!

I am a science student and a believer in the oneness of God. Evolution states that a species will change, because certain characteristics will be more beneficials for that organism, ie Natural selection, the population will have an increased density of certain alleles (variations of genes [units of heridity]). So, here is the contentious part, the evolutionists claim that due to mutations a species over an extended amount of time will change into another species such that it is incapable of breeding with the species it came from. I find that we cannot accept the last assertion, because

a) Mutations that have discovered so far have been lethal, and non beneficial
b)The amount of mutations needed to bridge the gap of even 2% between the difference of chimpanzees and humans can never happen, we are talking literally millions of base pairs of nucleotides.
c)Natural selection, only explains that certain genes will be 'selected' increasing their density in a population, however the theory lacks to explain how additional genetic material is added to the genome of an organism.

Those who take evolution as their source of origin, fail to realize that we are living on a planet that is spherical, that is only a small part of solar system, which is only, a fraction of the milky way galaxy, which is a tiny part of the known universe, which itself could be part of something of which are not able to comprehend.

Think of it like this, The universe is a petri dish, our planet is just a 1 tiny colony of bacteria, but the petri dish is part of something we don't understand.

If you want to accept randomness as your source of origin go ahead, but when the Day of Judgment comes, verily you will come to know.

[010:066] No doubt! Verily, to God belongs whosoever is in the heavens and whosoever is in the earth. And those who worship and invoke others besides God, in fact they follow not the (God's so-called) partners, they follow only a conjecture and they only invent lies.

So as for your comments that the religious hold a grand fear of seeking the truth, I think it is your sir who has a fear of the truth.

Thanks

Evolution is not a truth, it is a theory. I do not fear evolution. Jesus said not to fear that which can even harm the body but not the soul, but rather fear that which can harm the body and the soul. What grand evidence do you hold so dear as to consider the theory of evolution truth? There is none. God's existence cannot be proven nor disproved. Go play now and stop bothering the adults.

Why do atheists have such a grand fear of the non-existence of evolution?
I am a religious person, and I, nor my religion have any issues with evolution. If it is true, great, God is still responsible. Evolution does nothing to God Himself. It just makes atheists feel better about their non-belief in God.
Religious people don't need evolution to be true or false, however, it is interesting to note that atheists need evolution to be true to continue their belief system. My arguments against evolution stem on the fact that there is no evidence of inter-species evolution. Only evolution within species has been shown to exist. So the verdict is still out.

Becasue it is human nature to not want to be wrong. So all of the people out there that have believe something their whole lives don't want to be told something different. Just think you were a priest and your whole life you have done everything for God, would you really want to find out you were just wasting your time and everything you believe in was just made up throughout the ages. It is a said story that I myself feel will be the case. Religion is like a business that continues to evolve, once one product is proved defective or inferior, they come up with something new to sell to the masses. Money was in the beginning, and shall be in the end, forever and ever Amen!

There is no proof of the evolution theory. And even atheist scientist say soon Darwin's theory will be dismissed. Did you not see the channel 4 program last night "The trouble with Atheism" there is no proof of evolution just as there is no proof there is no God just as they have no clue what was before the big bang. Where is the truth? Its all only theory........Just because your opinion is the polar of mine does not mean you are right just as it does not mean i am right. What makes atheists so sure they are right? Where is there proof. Only theory which they choose to believe. I choose to believe in God and his revelations. Each to his own.

I have looked into evolution alot. I have no reason to be afraid of a theory that can't be proven. And if it can, why would I be afraid of it.

I believe Jesus is who he said he was, the Son of God and perfect. I have been convinced beyond doubt.
But their has been nothing that's made me believe for a second that this world was a mistake, and that there is nothing controlling how everything works. There are just too many patterns for it to be random.

Why do you say religions "fear" evolution? They simply believe in something different. Your personal truth may not be the worlds truth.

Some religions hold power over the masses by claiming the Bible is literal. If page 1 isn't literal, their power crumbles.
