I think it's great people like Angelina Jolie and Geroge Clooney get involved but why don't they ever get involved in charity here? What about all the starving children and family's here? Why can't they help them? What makes people in Africa, ect. better than the ones here? What about Katrina victims? What about St. Judes charities? Why don't they adopt children from here? Why do all the celebrities adopt children from from other countries? Why not America?

What's the difference? Poor is Poor! Just because you live in a desert doesn't make you any worse than someone who lives on the street! Come on people! I totally agree with the novelty idea! I had never thought about it that way!

Celebrity anything is just one big push for more attention in whatever they can get. Their charities are bullllsheeiitttttt as is the rest of their lives, and if they really cared, they wouldn't want to draw attention to their "charitable" activities. Very good observations and questions on your part. God Bless you.

I don't think the real question is why they choose the charity work they do. I think it SHOULD be, why do we care so much? We give them so much of our time and attention (as a society) - as if the fact that they are attractive and can memorize lines makes them somehow "better" than others.

Maybe it's because historically, we had actors who became real life heroes during WWII, so we cut modern actors too much slack and assume that they are also 'heroes' because of the roles they play.

Personally, I'm less interested in Clooney and Jolie and more interested in where I can make a difference.

Yes John and Cindy McCain are both the kind of folks who reach out and touch the lives of people less fortunate in a very generous way-------sure don't hear much about Obama charity works.

I agree with you in some respects. Poor is poor, but I think as long as it is their money, they can spend it where they like.
I think that they are trying and their efforts have made many people more global conscious, which is never a bad thing.
Whether they are all big publicity stunts or genuine acts of kindness they have made people more aware of what is happening in the world. So kudos to them for that.
Would you rather them take that money and buy more cars or a bigger house? At least they are making an effort.

Most of the celebrities don't do enough, they make millions of dollars and want the little man/women to pay with either their money or their taxes. Well it not just the Celebrities either some of the richest people should shell out some money. Thats what I think they should do, and if it were me that what I believe I would do.

Well it's better than nothing... as superficial or genuine as it may or may not be, it is better than nothing... there is little doubt that not enough is being done to fight poverty in the world. Maybe celebrities adopting African babies and holding hands with starving people doesn't help much, maybe it does, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt.

hey tiff, I saw that story too, did you see the Zimbabwe ambassador to the U.S. say that the rats were a delicacy and that he eats them himself? I'd like to see him prove it...

I think most do it to help themselves, make them look like better people to boost box office sales and record sales, their hearts aren't in like they pretend. Look at Bono, he's not in it to save world, only to save his check book. Do you really think people would still listen to U2's crappy music if Bono didn't stick his nose where it don't belong? He's Irish! Ireland has more problems then US, he should deal with them first, before criticizing US policy. At least we are not at war between Catholics and Protestants. Bono needs to grow up.
As far as adopt babies from other countries, this country has orphans too. Big deal, so they want novelty of Asian baby, that's messed up.
Like Randy said, if they cared, they wouldn't live the way they do. They could do better giving more to charity, most of us don't live on Millions of American dollars they don't have to. They don't have to wear suits that cost $5000.00 while digging in dirt in Africa. Think about that.

I do believe that he who has the most should give the most, but they shouldn't make news spectacle about it. That is shameful, it's like showing everyone in chruch you are putting a Hundred Dollar Bill in collection plate, it's in bad taste. Don't make circus about it. Do what you can and keep it private. I am suspicious when celebrites do good deeds in front of cameras.

Have you seen how poor the people in Africa are? It makes the homeless here look like they belong to the Forbes Top 40 list....

CNN today just did a story about how a girl caught rats for her family in Zimbawe to eat for dinner... RATS..
last time I checked here in the US homeless can go to Shelters and get a hot meal.. I see your point, poor is poor, but at least they are doing something.. are you contributing to society and doing charity work? what is your point??????

I don't see the point in judging other's charity work. Do you want them to stop? Or do you think you have the right to tell them what causes to support? It's confusing.
