Peanut blossoms are the favorite at my house. Many web sites carry this recipe, or others similar. I prefer to use those star shaped chocolate candies instead of hershey kisses - but they sell out fast just after Thanksgiving.

INGREDIENTS

* 1/2 cup shortening
* 1/2 cup peanut butter
* 1/2 cup white sugar
* 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
* 1 egg
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 14 milk chocolate candy kisses, unwrapped

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease cookie sheets.
2. In a large bowl, cream together shortening and peanut butter; gradually add sugar and brown sugar, creaming well. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
3. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamy mixture.
4. Shape dough into balls, using a rounded teaspoon for each ball. Roll balls in sugar and place on a greased cookie sheet.
5. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Remove from oven. Top each cookie with a candy kiss, pressing down firmly so cookie cracks around edges.
6. Return to oven for 3 more minutes.
