I got to buy my girlfriend a birthday gift next month. She's been hinting at this really nice diamond necklace/ear ring set but she always talk about going to Venice. I got a hefty Christmas bonus this year so I need to figure out what to buy her. The difference in cost between the two really aren't that great.

I would go to Italy only because you are spending so much on her you might as well enjoy it too. There is alway a chance she could loose the diamonds and what good would come of that. But a trip is always memorable.

It's tough when she's pretty much hinted at wanting both but having been to Venezia myself...I'd go for the JEWELRY!
Just as a side note of CAUTION though...If you take her to Venice then she might think you are setting her up for something bigger. That also depends on your relationship status that I don't know the details of.
DO Make sure the box for the jewelry can not be confused with anything

Get them both.
Take her to Venice on a Gondola and tell her to close your eyes.
She'll do it and you can show her the necklace.
She'll be so happy she'll be able to fall over board, whether it's a good thing or not, you might want to sign her up for swimming lessons before too.

Take her on the trip. That memory will last a lot longer. You can always get the neclace for an anniversary or birthday. You can always buy her a souvenir of a less expensive piece of jewelry in Europe.

The Gondola...definately...you can buy her diamonds anytime....and Italy has wonderful jewelry...buy her a nice prize there....nice guy...go for it....she will be thrilled....good luck

you pick a romantic trip to italy or a beautiful necklace/ear ring set. i personally think that if you have the money that taking her on a surprise trip to italy would be so nice but it's your chioce

here's my take....take her to Venice. the memories will last forever in her mind and heart, especially if neither one of you have never been. that's something you can share together, besides you always remember your first ;)
the jewelry set is just something materialistic...you can always get that another time
