My new roommate has a felony charge against him. He has been out for 5 years with a clean record. It was for posession of marijuana, not a violent charge. I have no fears of him being dangerous whatsoever. I want to know if I can have my guns (they are all registered,etc...) in my house or if I have to move them somewhere else.

I would suspect that he could be charged as others have been though I would talk to the Attorney General 1st! If a person was on probation, a handgun in your house would put him back in jail as they randomly search residence's of those on probation!

A Felon in possession of a handgun is becoming an outdated law. Those convicted of violent crimes perhaps, but someone who has too many speeding tickets and is declared a habitual offender?

Some things need to be changed or they become selectively enforced, like Adultery!

I dont know for sure but I know that when I was convicted (non-violent drug charge) they made sure that my dad didnt have any guns in the house before they let me live here. Just have him check with the court that convicted him or his probation officer (if he still has one) they will be the only one that would know for sure.

If there was no order from the court for this person to stay away from guns, then there is no problem at all. Anyway the guns are registered in YOUR name, not his..Just don't let anyone else carry your guns around.

You need to move them or take a risk of losing them. It doesn't matter if they are legal your roommate is still a convicted felon, and with that he lost his rights to bare arms. its the sad truth, but reality is a felony is a felony no matter the violence or non violence of it.

It depends on if they are locked in a gun case or closet. But in most felony cases you are not suposted to have posesion or access to any firearm.

You should talk to an attorney, I wouldn't take anybody's advice because you could get into a lot of trouble.
