For liquids you can usually equate 2 cups with 1 pound. However, with dry ingredients it becomes tricky. Some dry ingredients are denser than others and some far less dense. Two cups of raisins aren't going to weigh the same as two cups of oatmeal or coconut flakes. Two cups of packed, regular flour equals about one pound, so you can use that as a way to measure other dry ingredients for weight.

There are 2 cups to 1 pound. In 1 cup there is 8 oz and in one pound there are 16 oz. That's how I got 2 cups.

You can't really say. A pound is a weight measure while a cup is a volume measure.
An expample of why you can't compare the two: A cup of rocks is going to weigh a lot more than a cup of feathers.
However this works most times when it comes to liquid measurements. Everyone else is right in saying that 2 cups = a pound. Just remember this is only going to be true for water, milk, eggs (are pretty close).
Good luck. I hope my ramblings didn't confuse you.

OK... it depends TOTALLY upon what you are measuring....
check on the internet ... there are sites that give you the (runaround!) answer but not all the answers are the same!!
One site I just checked said flour is 4 cups per pound, another said 4 1/2 cups per pound ... sugar, being a heavier substance, comes to about 2 cups per pound ... just check and see which site you trust the most ...
I'm, still trying to find how many cups of flour are in a pint and quart and that is difficult to ascertain for sure also. (some old recipes specify measures that way ..pint or quart which are not usual for dry measures..)
Cheers and happy baking!

What was said above is for water. Because when you are measuring cups, you are measuring fluid ounces. In actually, it is differnt for each ingredient because of density. Flour is more dense than sugar. So a pound of sugar maybe two and half cups but a pound of flour may be a cup and 3/4. So it is hard to tell. I suggest you pull out a scale. But I guess you could eyeball and use the fluid ounce.

The people who say a cup is 8 oz and a pound is 16 oz are correct but their answers are incorrect.
You are using two different forms of measurement.
Your answer will be approximate depending on if the flour is sifted, if it's lumpy, if it's humid, etc.
If you are baking and need an exact measurement, you will have to weigh your flour to insure an honest pound.
But I can guarantee that a pound of flour is more than 2 cups.

it depends on by weight or by volume... but 1 pint is one pound and 1 pint = 16 oz which is 2 cups!
But if your recipe calls for 1 pound of something it usually means the ingredient by weight not by volume. Especially in baking.
