I wonder if the stories are really true or is it just a myth

Personally, I don't give con artists the time of day. They just make me want to puke, and I tell them so.
My preference is all for the guy who wants to hear what you say, instead of the one who is only interested in listening to himself talk.
Hang in there. You'll usually find one of us at the library or the book store.

i go for the content of the speech...if the guy speaks very quickly but talks for ever when he could have just said: i like pancakes with syrup
and the slower speaker sums it up a lot quicker
i´d probably choose the slower speaker...but then again, if the faster speaker can really get me into a conversation for so long and it could have been so easily summed up...the faster speaker...
you know what....
this is just a myth...

well this can be taken in many contexts..
i don't want a guy who talks ridiculously fast..and i dont' want a guy that talks slow enough for me to run and bake a turkey while he finishes the sentence either.
i'll tell ya what the sexiest thing when a guy is talking to me is.. i looove that little southern drawl..so it's a bit slower than some city boys..but it's not ridiculous slow.. THAT'S HOT!!

I'd say slow because it gives women more time to wonder what they are going to say next. And it also means men think before they speak sometimes...
