It relieves stress.

It tones muscles that you normally don't work (and those you do).

It makes you AWARE of concentrating on those muscles.

It makes you AWARE of the importance of breathing during your workout.

You gain flexibility.

You gain balance.

If you do it in the morning it can help boost metabolism and relax your body/joints for the rest of the day.

If you do it at night it helps you unwind.

Umm.. that's all I can think of for now.

I agree that yoga can have both mental and physical benefits.
Many people do find that they feel much more relaxed and calmer after a yoga session. Yoga can also help people work through emotional issues, and the focus on progression in many yoga practices can help with self-esteem and self-confidence issues. This can also help regulate moods and emotions.
Yoga's focus on the breath, while it contributes to the feeling of calm and control, can also bring you back to the present. This creates a meditative quality. Medical studies have proven that meditation like this can be extremely beneficial to your health, for example by decreasing blood pressure and boosting one's positive outlook on life. Also, this attention to breathing can be beneficial to people with asthma or related physical ailments.
Yoga's many physical benefits include increased strength, balance, muscle tone, and flexibility. It can improve your posture, alignment, and body awareness. This increased body awareness, when added with the fact that yoga is a form of exercise, means that some people find that yoga aids them with weight loss or maintenance. Yoga can also relieve a number of conditions, particularly those caused by tension or poor posture, like a sore neck, stiff back, and tight shoulders. I personally find that certain yoga poses can help relieve PMS symptoms, too.
In addition, yoga offers many other physical benefits that can't immediately be seen. For example, twists and related poses help with digestion, and some yoga practices focus on stimulating internal organs and glands, releasing hormones into the bloodstream.
For many people yoga also offers time for them to get back to themselves, to restore and rejuvenate their minds, bodies, and even spirits. Yoga originally had a religious component to it, and a number of yogis and yoginis find that they can reconnect with their spirits or their Divine Maker.
I know I've left many of the benefits off of the list, but I hope this gets you thinking outside of the box! Obviously not everyone enjoys every effect, but why not give yoga a try to see what it will do for you?

It makes you stress less... You'll become more flexible which is part of overall good health. If you have backaches, yoga is a perfect exercise.

If you dance or want a different work-out, I suggest you try pilates.
