Do you refer to water baptism? or with spirit and with fire? Water baptism is done for ourself. baptism with spirit is a saints blessing for us. It has been said that you can not enter the kingdom of God without BOTH. Without being baptized with spirit and with fire you will remain on the level of law, "sin", karma, cause and effect. Jesus did not baptize with water, his diciples did, jesus baptized with spirit and with Fire just as all Siddha Yoga Gurus do. Water baptism will soon cease as humanity moves into this age of spirituality.

Baptism is only a symbolic gesture. God is probably is happier over our thoughts that led to our baptism.

Catholics Babtise babies because the baby has no choice, no free will. A Catholic Baptism may mean a lot to the community and the parents. But, if it is not the result of the person choosing Harmony instead of Disharmony, then it means nothing and it is not a Baptism in God's eyes.

I like the idea (anyway). Why? It is a harmony-loving gesture from the parents.

Baptism is the outward sign of our inward rebirth. We do it in obedience to God -- and as a sign to the world that we are changed.

BTW, many denominations differ on their beliefs regarding baptism. You will have some dogmatically argue one way or another. Baptism is a minor, not a major. Don't get hung up on it.

Jesus had John baptism him in obedience to the Father. Since Jesus is the example we are to follow, that's all we really need to know.

If you believe that you can do anything "for God", then you put Him into a state of debt, don't you? So, baptism must be something that God does for us, and this is reflected in circumcision in the Old Testament -- God's covenant with His people -- and baptism that has replaced this rite.

Something we do for ourselves, our God, and those who witness it. All baptism is is a physical demonstration of the internal change in our hearts. It is a symbol.

baptism is a great gift from god if our parents are willing to permit and accept the blessing, or for those at the age of reason it is likewise a gift if the person is accepting and willing to permit the blessing. it brings us closer to him and initiates us into the christian lifestyle.

Depends....if it is infant baptism, it is god's gift to us since he calls us even before we are capable of realizing our need for Him. In baby dedication, the initiative is human -- not divine.

i believe that its both.

We do it so that we can be born again, as a symbol to ppl and to God that we're turning over a new leaf and beginning a new life walking with Him.
And he gives us that command...= oppurtunity to have a new life. God proovides us with a second chance.

It is both I would think. It is a commandment, so that would be for God...and it is a saving ordinance, so that would be for ourselves. For one cannot enter into the Kingdom of God without being baptized...
