I take dayquil in the afternoon and it knocks me out for HOURS and HOURS. How come. I can take dayquil at nights and have the best nights sleep. What causes this? Should I be concerned? Thanks

Me too. Any cold relief medications, such as cough syrup and decongestants put me flat out. My doctor referred me to an allergist (I have tons of medicine allergies) who said I have extreme sensitivity to narcotics and narcotic-like substances. I am to thus avoid cold medicines as if they were the plague and learn to deal with my symptoms with no meds.

No, there is no reason to be concerned. All people have different chemistry, and your chemistry is simply hyperreactive to DayQuil. As my doctor stated to me, "Just stop taking it." Apparently, that's as good a fix as you are going to get.

I think all meds do that.... I have taken non-drowsy stuff and it still knocks me out!!! I think everyone's different tho. Maybe your like me, our bodies would rather sleep when given meds cause thats how we get better quicker. Other people don't need sleep to get better and non-drowsy/day stuff works best for them.

Alcohol content- knocks most people for a loop. The non drowsy formula is usuallly alcohol free.

I would suggest you have a tolerance to something that's in the liquid. I wouldn't use it anymore without the doctors consent. Treat it as an script med.
