Human beings have this amazing ability to create a hell of their own choosing simply by believing in it.

Isn't that cool?

Life sucks and when you die, you're dead. I don't believe that because I can't handle that.

We believe what we want to believe.

Believe it.

BOTH!

". . .Those cities were destroyed by fire and are a warning of the eternal fire that will punish all who are evil." Jude 1:7

Then the LORD rained down fire and burning sulfur from the heavens on Sodom and Gomorrah. Ge 19:24

"The rich man shouted, 'Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish in these flames.' Luke 16:24

God is holy and cannot tolerate sin, therefore anyone that is counted with those to go into the pits of hell will not have any communication with God or His people, even though the ones with God will be able to see those in Hell in great suffering and look upon them in great horror.
God Bless You

Separation from God mostly. If you were not separated from God I believe you could even go through the pits of hell unharmed if you had Jesus by you. Look at the three guys tried in the furnace and were unscathed.

Daniel 3

19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual 20 and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. 21 So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. 22 The king's command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, 23 and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace.

24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, "Weren't there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?"
They replied, "Certainly, O king."

25 He said, "Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods."

26 Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, "Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!"
So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, 27 and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.

28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, "Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king's command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. 29 Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way."

There are quite a few passages which speak of being "cast away" from God and not being able to "enter His gates".

I believe that the places in the Bible which speak of "fire" and "burning" are describing the torment of hell not the physical agent of the torment. After all, we do leave these bodies behind when the day of judgement comes.

I believe it is separation from God/Christ/Great Spirit/etc.
I think of it like this... Heaven and Hell are in the same place, the heart of God. Those in heaven have accepted His love and are happy with him. Those who reject him are constantly angry at his efforts to enter their lives. They are suffering because they will not open their hearts to him.
Kind of like in highschool, if you ever had someone you really didn't like fawning over you... Think of how annoying that would be for all eternity!
I think the 'fire and brimstone' stuff is just a more concrete, physical idea of Hell, becuase physical pain often scares people more than emotional.
Hope that all made sense :)

Good question. When Christ returns at the end of this age, there will be a 1000 year period of study and disipline - after that time, there will be the great judgement. Those will will perish will go into the lake of fire - they will not remain there frying like bacon and screaming for us all to watch - Scripture says it will be like they never existed - their smoke will go up in the air forever and ever (thats what smoke does- it goes up) Thats it. After that, there will not be any lake of fire because we will have been judged worthy for eternal life. There is the Biblical account of the rich man and Lazarus - both the rich man and lazareth die, and the rich man is across a gulf which he cannot crossover - but he can see the throne, and he can see lazareth in the arms of Abraham, being comforted. The rich man is separated from God and it is, I'm sure "hell" to him, knowing that he didn't make it -
but he is not burning or screaming, he's just real upset with himself. The rich man calls out, asking if God would please send an angel to his family on Earth and tell them what happened to him, so that they don't continue in their ways and end up accross the gulf, too. But God tells him that he sent the scripture and the prophets are well written, and that if people are going to ignore that, they won't listen to anything else either. Sounds just like the world today - people are biblically illiterate at best - and most of them don't care to understand the Word, unfortunately, to their destruction.

"Hell" is separation from the God and the Goddess,or just the God if you practice a monothestic religion. You have to do something really horrible or say "I hate God!" and you must really really mean it. And this "Hell" is not run over by Satan, since he doesn't exist at all. And you really don't spend eternity in "Hell" you go in and you come right back out in utero.

"Hell" is also refered to as "The Left Door", which I perfer since I feel that "Hell" is the invention of xians and Jews.

Hell is the grave. There is a lake of fire and brimstone. Those whose names are not found in the Lamb's book of Life shall be cast into the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, as well as death and hell, Satan and his angels. This is all in the Bible. I repeat for the 100th time - READ the Bible instead of trying to create controversy about it.

I dislike the idea of a catch all hell. If I'm going to suffer for eternity I expect my torment to be tailor made for me, based on my vices, fears and dislikes.

I think Satan and or God should have the imagination and the budget to do it.

I hope it involves succubi..they sound soooo hot!

maximum Christians have faith in Hell for the comparable motives you do, through fact the Bible describes it as eternal torment. some persons profess Christ yet wont settle for "hell" claiming it quite is basically non existance or in basic terms non everlasting.... even nonetheless the Bible describes it lots in any different case. The inconvenient reality is, that God is basically... we get basically rewards and basically punishment. the only basically opposite of eternal peace, is eternal torment. something is unjust. people who dont have faith in Hell, might have good intentions, they dont opt to think of every person will spend eternity that way... i understand I dont choose every person to spend eternity that way, yet what i choose and what the Bible says are diverse. For others, its basically wishful questioning. they might think of 'nicely, I cant lose quite, non existance isnt frightening and neither is eternal existence" so as that they dont take their walk in Christ heavily.
