I've seen some that are vinyl (cheapest), polypropylene, and cotton (most expensive). But I've also read that cotton doesn't work 100% against dust mite feces (which is actually what most people are allergic to).

Anyone have any insight?

Thanks.

AllergyEnd plus, is a 100% cotton dust mite protective bedding, but is an Australian company. I have also included a few other links that give information etc about protective bedding.

Good luck.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy new year.

If you are allergic to dust mites covering your bedding in soft, breathable, quiet, dust mite proof bedding is the best thing you can do for your health. Why take expensive drugs that cause side effects? Encasing your bed is not expensive and it's a permanent solution. Remember, many doctors believe allergies can cause asthma if left untreated. Even if your not allergic now prolonged exposure to an allergen can cause you to become allergic at any time during your life.
If you have a rug or carpet in your room it may contain dust mites also. When you vacuum the rug you spray these microscopic mites into the air and all over the room. To prevent this you can take several steps.

1. Consider eliminating the carpet if you have a hardwood floor underneath.

2. Spray the carpet with AllerSafe Anti-Allergen Spray. This plant based, non-toxic, non-staining spray is highly effective in neutralizing dustmite, pet and other allergens. After treatment the mites which are blown into the air by your vacuum will not cause an allergic reaction because they have been denatured.

3. Consider purchasing a tight vacuum cleaner that does not leak allergens into the air. We recommend Miele vacuums which have been shown to be extremely tight and almost nothing escapes the HEPA filtering system.

Only completely encasing the mattress, pillow or comforter will contain the mite allergen.

Look for linens with the highest tread count possible that you can afford. I would not use vinyl coverings as they can cause moisture buildup under your body and actually set up an environment that the mites love to live in.

I don't see how a vinyl cover will help, you need to take that mattress outside in the full sun for at least 3 hours each side, this will kill those little buggers. I don't like the idea of sleeping with a vinyl cover underneath you, vinyl does not breathe. Kill the mites, clean your room, lift carpeting, open windows and curtains to allow the sunlight and fresh air to flow through the bedroom. Lots of luck to you.

Well being a Medlab Tech and knowing what they look like, you'd cringe at seeing them and knowing they were in bed with you. We clean, like dust the bedroom due to allergies and vacuum the mattress wash the sheets three times a week, constantly turning them around with new ones (rotating) dust mites cannot stand sunlight, like vampires, it kills them. so the cleaner you have it, the better.

there are pillow covers for allergies and sprays too, so try them both. as for dust mites you just have to live with them and do alot of cleaning.

Sheets and pillow cases don't kill them, they just cover them. Wash your sheets and blankets once a month, and spray your mattress and pillow down in lysol. That will get rid of them.
