I got engaged last week and have started to plan the wedding. We would like to do something next October or early November in the LA/OC area. After several years of 6+ weddings per summer it would be great to have a more casual and fun event for my friends and family to attend. Obviously trying to keep the cost down too as we are planning to invite 200+. Any interesting ideas or veunues that people would like to offer up?

I got married on a cruise ship. We went with Royal Carribean. I was from the NY area, so we went to Bermuda. The only people that need to be sailing in order to do this are the bride and groom. Everyone else can come aboard as guests and then leave once the ceremony and reception are over. Then you and your new husband go on a great cruise honeymoon!

It was a good experience, but it didn't last very long. The actually ceremony was about 15-20 minutes followed directly by a 2 hour reception. Basically it was enough time to eat, drink and take pictures. Then it was all over. After the reception, I said goodbye to my guests and the photographer took us all over the ship for about 1.5 h ours taking pictures. The pictures came out GREAT!

As people were leaving, some said it was the best wedding they've ever been too ( I think because it was so short and sweet). It was definately untraditional and fun for people. The guest can mingle around the ship before the ceremony. I got my hair and make-up done on the ship.

Hope I gave you enough details- it was definately a good overall experience. The only drawback for me was the length of time for the ceremony. Oh, and the fact that you have to get everybody's date of birth, country of citizenship and drivers license # when you give your final count of guests to the ship. That part sucked!

Take a cruise down Beach Blvd off the 405 fwy towards the beach. There are several different wedding chapels along that stretch. If none of those do it for you, there is a little park off the 605 fwy right at Florence av. on the west side of the fwy. I forget the name of it, but you cant miss it There's a little lake and a bridge there, and a club house. We see weddings going on there all the time. Also the LA county arboretum in Arcadia on Baldwin av. seems to be a pretty popular and nice place to have a wedding or at least a reception.

*the newport harbor wedding cruises are nice. although, I think 200 might be the limit. they do have packages w/ everything included (food/dj/photographer etc) so it's worth checking out.
*laguna beach has some really great art galleries which you may be able to rent for a cocktail reception. very chic.
*old town san juan capistrano has some great ambiance. very cute places for wedding receptions.
Tip: look at so.cal wedding photographers web blogs or websites to see photos from socal weddings. that way, you can see how a wedding will look at that particular location.
www.boutwellstudio.com/blog is a good one.
hope this helps :D
