Because people in general are selfish. People will lie to you or steal from you if it will benefit them in some way. You can never fully know someone's entire situation, and you can't know for sure whether they are using you to further their situation in some way. No matter much you care for a person, its quite easy to stab them in the back if you're put in a "me-or-them" position.
However, understanding this about all people means we have to accept it about ourselves, as well. You can't cut yourself off from everyone because they have this flaw. Knowing people and forming friendships can bring positives to your life as well. You just have to know that when it comes down to it, people will put themselves before you. Be prepared for it, and it won't be so hard when it happens.

Most people put their own emotions and feelings before all else. If something makes them feel bad, regardless of what it means for others, they probably will look after their own interest before anyone elses. This selfish aspect of human perspective means that usually, you'll be able to trust yourself before anyone else. But you usually get what you expect from others, so I'd do my best to see the best in everyone around me, and give them their proper shadow of the doubt unless they prove me otherwise.

Trust does not reflect others it reflects the one who either trusts or miistrusts. Yes, all people are fallable. We all have sinned or made mistakes. However, if we trust others, we are trustworthy. If we do not trust others, we are in some way not trustworthy. This does not say that we should be stupid. We must learn how to be discerning. Trust in God.

Peoples morallity has gone way down! It is no big deal to lie! To gossip and bring someone down is better than sticking up for someone.
It's sad! That's why we all need to teach our children strong morals and instill in them the courage to stick by them! Otherwise, this world will only continue to go down hill.

All people have self preservation as their critical and ultimate goal. Anyone/thing that interferes triggers DANGER alarms. If people who elicit trust are not worthy at a subliminal level, we instinctively sense it. Not that we heed it.

Most people can't be trusted because they have thier own mind, and you don't know what they're thinking. They can lie to you, and you'll never know. They can hate you and act like your best friend. They'll do whatever they realize they're capable of, just because they can.

Because people forgot what HONOR means. And forgot to teach their children what honesty is... maybe all the other values, isn't this sad?
