The christian god is supposed to be nurturing yet has no female side which is in contrast to humanity where females are for the most part far more nurturing then men. Does this not bother the female christians that your gender is not presented as part of god?

To Chippy108 ...however goddess of female diety existed during that time and before in other cultures so I think it would be wrong to assume that it was because of the mindset of the times towards gender

I have heard the explanation that god has no gender before but I have trouble accepting that because the reference used in the bible and standard prayers is most definitly masculine and refers to god over and over again as father and never mother. I also agree that men can be nurturing but I think if we asked what was the more nurturing gender the answer most would give is female. I find it interesting that the pattern of gender is different from that of human life

We are Christians we are not mere flesh and blood. Why would we boast of being male or female it is our flesh? We are more than flesh and blood we are spirit and the spirit joined to the flesh becomes a living soul. To argue over this flesh which perishs is foolishness. God is spirit and God is over all things. God is the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit it is in his image that we are created not merely flesh and blood but also spirit. The marriage of the body and the spirit is the soul. We are more than male and female. We are created in his image both male and female. But God has an order and there are spiritual meanings behind the order of God. Each sex of man has a purpose and each person has a purpose. Do you consider your hand greater than your foot or do each perform a function in your body. We are that body of Christ.

Yes, as a woman and a Christian, it does bother me. Some Christians connect Mary with the feminine goddess figure, which doesn't really make sense because she was a human and not divine. Other Christians view the Holy Spirit as the feminine part of the trilogy; however, there is not a lot of theological support for this view, at least not in Christianity. The Jewish name for the Holy Spirit is Shecinah (sp?) and She is viewed as feminine, while God the Creator (Yahweh) is masculine.

The Bible also speaks of Wisdom, which is feminine and an attribute of God. I think Wisdom is probably the closest female side of the Christian God. Unfortunately, Christians don't talk about Her very much.

At the beginning of Genesis, there are two in the Godhead, but the two are one. E = 2 = 1.
And now (we) will make human beings, (they) will be like (us) and resemble (us).
So God is Dual.
And (They) made them, male and female.
The Lord God planted the garden.
So we still see a dual personality.
I would have to check through to see where it becomes the singular, He/Him God.
I was taught to believe, that the two conversing with each other is,
God the Father, talking to His Son, Jesus Christ.
Two male figures.
And when Jesus returns to "get" the bride or woman, it will also be a man, or group of men or church or Israel, it just depends on which word you switch around there.
And these are the three sayings, that go out, and into all the earth - to gather them together.
What does that mean in the New Testament where it says:
(YOU ARE STANDING, WHERE YOU OUGHT NOT!?)
And these are the three "sayings"

In Judeo-Christian theology, God is without gender, or rather includes both genders, as expressed in the creation story where God "made humanity in his own image, male and female he made them...."
The masculine pronoun does not necessarily imply a male antecedent; it is a generic pronoun. In many languages there is no neuter gender in nouns or pronouns, and objects such as "table" and "floor" have grammatical gender, but no sex.
Jesus is a man, but only his human body is male, since he has to be one or the other.
There are many passages in the Hebrew scriptures and the New Testament in which God is imagined as feminine. These are often ignored by people, though.

Lets play the "what if" game about this.

What if there was female aspect of Christian diety as well? What would happen? How many people take the Male God's name in vain? Or use it to justify attrocities? How would her name be used? You know, I like to think there is a female side to the Christian God, but maybe it's just safer (or more sacred) keeping the her side anonymous for now.

GOD is neither man nor woman just in the times that the Bible was written most women were illiterate and men did the writing and chose the male gender for God "because a woman couldn't handle power"(-their thoughts) It's the same for translations, in the origional text there was no one named James, but when King James had the bible translated he named one of Jesus' brothers James so he would be in the bible and he thought this would take the pressure offf of him being gay.

But we are.

Look at Genesis 1.

God created Adam. Both sexes were in Adam. The rib taken from Adam (the rib in Hebrew means the other side). So woman was taken out of Adam.

Adam = warrior, provider and protector
Eve = beautiful, inviting and life giving.

You will notice that God is both. Warrior, provider, protector, beautiful, inviting and life giving...God is Spirit. That's how God sees us. He doesn't see Jew nor Greek (Gentile), bond or servant...male or female. We are all one in Christ Jesus.

God knew what He was doing when He created Adam and Eve.

it shouldnt... go back to the day the religion came about, men were considered superior to women, thus it would have been offensive to give god a feministic side. god may not even have a gender, but we still genderalize him, take for instance a boat, many call there boat a "she" but it actually has no gender. u go up to a group of people say "hey guys", but there are women among them. its just a way of generalizing a term.

God Isn't a Male or Female. But they refer to him as how a father figure should act. Who says fathers cannot be nurturing

The Bible states,
He
Him
Father

It does not reflect a female side nor even indicate it.
Why would a Father figure bother them?
Female side you say is more nurturing? Humanly maybe.
On the God side, that is debate able.
