Well, let's do the math. The earth's surface is about 200 million square miles. Each square mile is about 25,000,000 square feet. I'd say that about 1,000 beans cover a square foot. So, there you have it, the answer is

200,000,000 x 25,000,000 x 1,000 or

5,000,000,000,000,000,000

which is a lot of beans.

Addendum: My answer is FAR MORE accurate than the other guy's.

Addendum 2: If by "solid surface", you mean the continents, divide answer by 4 to get 1,2500,000,000,000,000,000.

if by solid you mean the entire surface area (including oceans)

5100656000000000000 square cm is the surface area of the earth
1 square cm is about right for a coffee bean

5,100,656,000,000,000,000 thats a lot of beans
