I am not a picky viewer just want a very good picture that shows off my HDTV capabilities.

You won't be able to see any difference unless you have a HTDV that's 42" or larger. In order to get the best possible picture your TV must also be able to display a resolution of 1080i or 1080p. This is due to the fact that all HD-DVD were mastered in 1080p resolution. Normal DVD only mastered at 480p resolution. If you have all these requirements then go ahead. If not, a player with HDMI will also show great picture.
