First of all to mention alumina problem is due to the bad quality of ore ( in Indian ores) having high alumina content.
Having high alumina causes to lower the basicity of the slag and thus thickening the slag. Blast furnace may even hang and needs to be shut down if quantities are fairly high.
Problem can be taken care of by using imported ore ( specially Australian ore) having high SiO2 and low alumina or by adding MgO/CaO (any one is used, I dont remember it very specifically)

It can blow up a Blast Furnace.

If some aluminium gets in the furnace it will melt but molten aluminium has affinity for water/steam and air. The reaction is extremely violent.
