Measure the 26.2 mile distance somewhere with your car. Then try walking that distance. Don't jog, or even walk fast, just walk to see how it feels to keep your body moving for that long distance. Bring some snacks and drink and plan on walking for almost 10 hours. Once you've walked the distance you'll have a much better basis for determining how realistic it is for you to run the same distance.

It could be. I have run over 20 marathons and so I know what is involved. Much would depend on how overweight you are, your general physical condition and how much of a time committment you are willing to make. A year is sufficient to train for a marathon. Without knowing your age and medical history I could also suggest that you speak to your doctor before undertaking any serious training program.

YES!
And good for you for taking on this endeavor!
Join a running club in your area. Check Niketown or www.ExerciseFriends.com.
They will train you.
And it's ok if you do a half marathon (13 miles)...you will have achieved more than most!

It's very realistic and very possible. With proper training, you will be able to complete the entire run. Good luck.
