Is the last name 'Stratton' popular? because on ICQ.com there is a spot that says popular last names.

Hey skaterbabe,

In Genealogy, a rare name is difficult to research, and a popular name produces too much information. Stratton produces 297 entries in the Family Search web site. That is a manageable amount. On Ellis Island it produces 643 hits (people with the same surname), which is a lot of people to go through. So, it has just cost a lot of time to get through the names to find one that matters to you (if you look).

You see why it matters. There were names where I could not find any information, the other side of the problem.

Maybe they should have said "more common" names rather than "popular".

In your city there may be 100 Smiths and Joneses in the phone book. How many Strattons are there?

Stratton is not a common name or a "popular" name.

According to
http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/namesearch.pl
it is 1,525 th in popularity the USA. It is much less popular in China, much more in England. Without a country, your question is impossible to answer.

Back in the USA, Smith is #1, Johnson #2.

should it matter how popular your last name is? as long as you know it and know your place in life what else matters.
