THERE'S NO SANTA!!!!! Just kidding. I think when they ask about Santa and the answer "It's magic" no longer works. I didn't catch on untill I was 8.

We always just let the kids get old enough to figure out that it was an impossiblity. When The child is around 6 or 7 (usually) they will start asking questions about how is it that santa can do these things, then you tell him that Santa was one person that lived along time ago and that the mommys and daddys liked what he did so they kept it up and kept the stories to keep him alive. that is how we explained it to all the kids i know and they werent bent out of shape by it. My friends son found out the hard way and caught her putting presents under the tree after he had asked her about santa and she lied and said that yes he is real line and the kid freaked out and called her a lier and wouldn't listen to her for months he just called her a lier and was a lil s.hit about the whole thing. The truth is better but not till they are old enough to handle it.

I was eight years old when I heard the same rumor at school. My mother was honest with me and said that there is no santa, in the way that the TV portrays anyway. Santa is found in everyone around us, and that is what he represents. There is no fat man, in a red suit, that lives at the north pole and has flying reindeer. But there are very kind and gernerous people that are living next door to us, and down the street. Those are the people who make santa real, giving gifts of love and kindness to other people around them. I was lucky enough to understand, and to keep the santa tradition alive for my sister who is almost 2 years younger than me. As I got older, 12 and so, I always said I still believe in Santa, and to this day, I still do. Because my mother explained it so well to me.

If they started doubting and ask you the question, I'd say go ahead and tell them the truth. But, I'd wait if the fact will make them alienated at school because her friends are still believing in Santa.
The best way is to let them find out by themselves - the older they are, kids will start wondering how Santa deliver all gifts in one nights, or recognize a family member who dresses up like Santa, etc.

I have six children, the oldest being 12 and the youngest are 3. I have not told any of them that there is no Santa. My eleven year old, has discovered that I do the stockings and such, but even this year wrote her letter to Santa, as did the rest and I. I believe that you should let your children have those childhood dreams as long as they will. I feel extremely blessed that my little ones still believe and that the older ones are still able to keep it up so they can. Let them be little. It goes by so fast, don't do anything to push it faster.

At 8 years old she probably knows something is up, but wants to believe in the magic still... I would let her go on believeing until she outright asked me.. In my kids case, I told them, "there sure is a Santa!!! and his name is Daddy!!" they are 13 & 11 now and still like to go on about Santa at christmas time, just now "santa" is code for their dad.

They find out from their peers at school, and will come to you and ask. I find nothing wrong with teaching them that it is an anonymous way to give gifts, in the name of Santa, and perhaps asks for only a cookie and milk, in return, and they can continue on the giving with their younger brothers or sisters or somewhere else that gifts are needed and give in Santas name themselves, when they are ready to share. HOHOHO Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. Merry Chrismas

If your kids are asking questions about Santa its time to tell them the truth. Remind them that not all kids at there age are aware that Santa isn't real and it needs to stay a secret so they don't blab to other kids.

You mean there's no Santa?????? I believe in Santa!
Seriously, with our kids they found out from their friends. We didn't lie to them when they asked but we tried to keep them believing for as long as possible. When our oldest was about six he had some big mouth friends at school. My husband made reindeer tracks and sleigh runners in the snow on Christmas Eve. We got him for another year!
