You can be close with God and have a meaningful relationship without going to church or doing those things you listed. Forexample church is just supposed to encourage you and help you grow but that may not be for you.

The only meaningful relationship one can have with God is often in spite of religion. St. Paul had to be separated from his religion with a revelation.

This does not mean that he was no longer involved with pastors and congregations or doctrine.

Religion is a word.... ignore it .
You are asking if you can have a relationship with God with out it....Of course you can..!
Prayer is, or can be a conversation with the Divine.
There is no reason not ot read the scripture... it is suppose to be a guide...priests, pastors,etc... often muddle the innocence of it with Dogma....thats what religion is dogma and politics inside the church.
SPirituallity is a freeing experience. Religion piles the guilt on to us, as if we needed more of that.

By definition "meaninful relationship" means two participants, in this case you and God, ergo: of course you can attain and maintain a meaninful relationship with God without religiion. Remember that relligion varies from one community to another due to societal influences. If you need a pastor, book, doctrine, rite, etc to maintain a relationship with God, you are not bringing to the relationship what you should, ie unconditional love.l

Without man invented religion? yes... The True Christian Faith is not a man invented "religion". the relationship between God and The individual is The Truth of The Faith...There was no man, priest, pastor or man doctrin or dogman involved in my Salvation... just God and me... But... Those of The Church.... those who come to God in The Way, and only in The Way, He prescribes, receive His free gift of Salvation... and with this free gift comes the instruction not to forsake the gathering togeather with others of The Faith...

if you have a question concerning the basics of The True Christian Faith you may email me.

One can certainly be spiritual and form what religious people refer to as "a meaningful relationship with God" without taking part in organized religion.

You can have a meaningful relationship with God without anything except Jesus Christ. He died on the cross so that you can have this relationship. "There is one mediator between God and us, and that is Jesus". Churches, are wonderful for fellowship and for worshiping God together, however being in church does not make you a Christian who has a relationship with the living God. You only need to accept Christ as the Savior for your sins, as I did, and you can begin to have a relationship with God.

To get closer to God, you must spend time with Him.

Daily Bible reading, praying, praise (music, song) and worship Him. If you don't know where to start (Bible)...begin with the book of John (4th book of the New Testament). Then read Jude (book before Revelation) and go book by book back to Matthew. Once you've got a good handle on the New Testament, being with Malachi in the OT and work your way back to Genesis.

Religion is man's way of trying to reach God.

Relationship is God's way of reaching us through Jesus Christ.

To draw nearer to God, you must get to know Him...

Of course! That is true spirituality my friend...your personal connection to the source of all that is. Of course you may want to look into the many varied, fun and meaningful paths of paganism. Most have no dogma, no hierarchy. Only you and the priest or prietess you become for yourself.

For a meaningful relationship with a priest use condoms and lubricants. With a televangelist add popers.
