We get on with each other so well...I would so love to take things to another level. But it's true I'm not that attractive, although I think but-ugly is a mean way to say it.

Honey, this bloke just called you butt ugly. He is not your friend. I'm sure you are very attractive, and you really don't need shallow people like that around you, as they will just make you feel rubbish about yourself. Get away from him, as he is so obviously not worth it. Find someone who likes you for who you are, not how you look. We all lose our looks in the end, but your personality you have for life...what a pity he's got such a c**p one.

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe in the future you could look into some sort of anti-ugly cream; or possibly research a situation such as John Travolta employed in the movie "Face Off".

Honey, if he says you are "butt-ugly", he is NOT your best friend. What in the hell does looks have to do with friendship anyway? You're damn right - he is a mean-spirited bastard - and I'd tell him so and find myself another friend, someone who will appreciate me for more than just looks.
Tell him to take a hike. A long one. To Timbuktu. And when he finds a "butt-pretty" woman and she dumps him because he is so friggin' shallow, to forget your number.

Oh my god, why are you friends with this guy??
I know you like him but you should not take things further with him, he obviously has no consideration for your feelings and you are so much better off without him.
Find some new friends babe and please don't think of yourself as unattractive, you are beautiful in your own way and one day some really great guy is gonna love you no matter what you look like.

Butt-ugly is harsh!!! honesty is good though!!! there is a reason for the best friend title!!! i fell in love with my best friend but i never persued a relationship with him... it just happened naturally. we just hung out with each other more than with our own friends... next thing you know we're dating....
