I don't really like tatoos, especially on women and my girlfriend wants to get one. I've told her that I am okay with tatoos, but don't think that she is the kind of person that should have a tatoo. I don't wanna threaten to break up with her cuz that is awful I don't really want her to get a tatoo but what can I do??

Hey quess what Hollywood...who cares what you think. She's her own person and if she wants a tattoo that's her decision. If you don't like it too bad. Be a good boyfriend and support her and don't give her hard time about it because she will resent you. Don't be a controlling jerk.

Explain to her honestly how you feel about tattoos, especially on women. You told her that you're ok with tattoos before, but apparently you're not and you need to let her know that. Also, you could research some of the negatives of getting tattoos and discuss them with her. If after all this she still wants the tattoo, then there isn't much you can do and you should let it go. It's good that you don't want to threaten to break up with her over it though, because if you really love a person for their personality then one tattoo shouldn't make that much of a difference. Try not to let it bother you so much. It's, in all honesty, her body and she can do what she wants with it, regardless of your opinion on the matter.

Remind her that when she's 50, she'll still need to look at the tatoo she has chosen. Also, reaffirm how beautiful she is without a tatoo.

Before I tell you what I think let me give you a strategy.

Show her an old lady, the older the better. Then tell her to imagine that lady with the tattoo that your friend wants. Would she be proud to have others view that tattoo?

What I think is that "who the heck are you to put your expectations on your friend"? Tell her what you think then let it go! She should make up her mind just as you would want to make up your own mind with an important decision.

You need to decide if a tattoo is important enough for you to lose your friend. If not, be a friend, not her mom!

you are absolutely right by sayingthat is aweful and you cant make her not get a tattoo... what is so bad about them.... you are not her boss and you cant tell her what to do... if you dont want to be with her just becasue she wants a tattoo maybe you should not have gotten with her in the first place.... that should even matter, it should be what is on the inside is what counts

The best thing you can do is let her know how you feel.

But respect her body and her choices. You need to love her for exactlly who she is. If she really wants one, support her decision and think about what really matters in your relationship/ life. Good luck!

Why do you want to control her? You have no right telling her she cannot have a tattoo. If you don't like tattoos, dump your GF and find someone who agrees with you. Otherwise, learn to accept your GF for who she is instead of what you want her to be.

You don't, it's her body...
Threatening to break up would be shallow...
Discuss it, but ultimately it's her decision...
